Gary has issued another challenge to post a photo of our motorcycle someplace interesting. For me photographs bring back memories of good times, of places traveled and the opportunity to meet friends along the way
St Mary's Lake, Glacier National Park, July 2011
I smile every time I think of my trip to Montana with Bluekat, Ron, Dom and Family all huddled together in a cabin in the middle of nowhere
Riding into a Storm. South of Merritt, BC (Coquihalla Connector) Spring, 2011
A day ride with the guys. We left Vancouver before 6am and when we reached Merritt we had to turn around as a big storm was closing in. This was the Vancouver-Hope-Princeton-Merritt-Hope-Vancouver loop. We managed to have lunch before we tried to outrun the rain . . .
I previously posted a video of our ride HERE
Both great pics Bob! I do prefer the first one though - love looking across the water to the hills, and of course there's a V-Strom in the pic and that sure doesn't hurt!
ReplyDeleteAndrew:
DeleteI liked looking at those mountains too. We were lucky to get good weather and few clouds, otherwise you wouldn't be able to see those mountains. The last time I was there it was foggy and misty, and that was during July. You're right, having a posing Vstrom helps
I too like the first shot. Its fantribular!
ReplyDeleteSteve:
DeleteThank you. It's hard to snap photos when you are with other riders but I knew they wouldn't leave without me . . . or would they ?
That first picture is a keeper. Great shot!!
ReplyDeletePaul:
DeleteI'd imagine that you had lots of similar photos when you rode to Alaska a few years ago. Perhaps time for you to come North and I'll meet you in the Canadian Rockies in 2014
I just knew you'd come up with something spectacular for this Bob. I love both shots and cant decide which to like the most. The first is picturesque but that second pic tells a whole story of adventure.
ReplyDeleteBrenda:
DeleteI took the 2nd photo because of the Storm/Cloud formation ahead. It was bright and sunny everywhere except where we were heading. As for Glacier National Park, every pullout is nearly as scenic as that one, if you were lucky to have a cloudless day.
Everytime I look at the first photo it reminds me of my trip to Montana, and our (rented VRBO) cabin in the forest
Dear Mr. Scoot:
ReplyDeleteThe mountains loom like a barrier... And they stand like an invitation... The motorcycle is both the challenge and the escape. Great pictures. I have nothing to compare with that background. Then again my own riding background is checkered with illusion. Pleas check your email later today.
Fondest regards,
Jack/reep
Twisted Roads
Mr Jack:
DeleteIn Glacier NP, there are mountains everywhere with the blue glacier coloured water.
Hoping that you get back your "bike legs" this summer. Less than 3 months before I head that way but I am only 400 kms north of you. so perhaps we could "meet in the middle"
Great pictures Bob. I like the dramatic clouds in the second one.
ReplyDeleteTrobairitz:
DeletePhotos bring back memories of good times/experiences. This was one of my longer multi-day trips and I smile every time I think about it.
We were rolling down the highway and when I saw the clouds ahead I knew that I just had to stop. I seldom take the lead, but this day I was the leader of the pack and I decided to pull over. Usually I have bikes in front of me, as I like to ride sweep. This day I had bikes behind me so I could capture the sky & those threatening clouds.
I posted a video of our ride HERE
Great pictures, you always have such lovely shots and an eye for finding them. I thought that jumble of scooters and motorcycles at the scooter rally last year was a pretty amazing parking picture, the one with you and the RTE crew.
ReplyDeleteDar:
DeleteI remember our RTE crew from last year, and also our lovely RTE Ride Leader. I still remember that weekend and wished it would never end.
Since all of my photos were deleted before mid October 2012 because Webshots shut down, I could repost some of my recollections, as there are no linked photos on my older entries & it looks bare without photos
I like both pictures! I need a long ride soon. This little taste of spring we had and my short ride has just served to whet my appetite!
ReplyDeleteErik:
DeleteThose photos bring back memories too. We had a taste of summer a couple of weeks ago but our temps have gone down a bit and the rain is less intense. This time of year we have a mixed bag of showers and sun cycles. You just never know but the rain is getting a bit lighter.
We had a very mild winter and only a bit of snow back in December. Since then only frost in the mornings so we can't commute. I hope you get better weather soon and go out for a ride
Nice photos! I wouldn't mind being in either location these days.
ReplyDeleteRichard:
DeleteI wouldn't mind going back to those locations right now either, but it's too early in the year for warm weather. Looking at photos gives me the urge to go somewhere different.
I know you are grounded this year so I guess your long distance plans have to wait until iMBC2014 ?
Both great photos Bob. I love the mountains and especially Glacier, but if I were able, I'd drop right into the second one, mount up and ride on.
ReplyDeleteCoop:
DeleteI know one day in the near future you will probably make it to BC. I can show you around. We could ride the Icefields Parkway and then some great roads in the Kootenays. You were only a bit over 4 hours to Vancouver the last time you were in Kamloops. I am not sure what is happening with iMBC2014 (Erik was planning this, it think), but otherwise my calendar is open for 2015
Has it really been almost 2 years since we all road on the going to the sun road? It was indeed a great trip, and we are ever so grateful you were able to join us. This hobby of my husband's has brought so many good and interesting people into our lives....which of course I include you in my top 5 finds!
ReplyDeleteMartha:
DeleteIt was nearly 2 years ago back in July 2011 when we stayed in that little cabin. I have fond memories of being "part of your family", if only for that short time. You're making my head swell, I am also grateful that we had a chance to meet all of you too. When I read your report on the Grand Canyon and having that tailgate lunch with Richard, I remembered our picnic lunch by the lake before we rode the Highway to the Sun. There were so many things that make me smile when I think about our vacation that year.
You are so good with Dom. First the Ural, and now his ride of a lifetime. You are special and one in a million. I am hoping our paths cross again sooner than later
Thanks for the memories....that's what we ride for ... and that's what keeps us going.
ReplyDeleteKaren:
Deletewhen all is said and done, and we are old and grey and our possessions are gone, and all we can do is just sit and watch the clouds flow by, we have our memories. There can be no regrets or things that we wished we had done when we had the ability . . . and when our memory is gone, we still have our photos.
I hope we can make more memories this year and turn dreams into action, before we physically can't
Bob, re you question as to whether we'd leave without you or not....I think you were within 500 shots of the limit that time! ; )

Dom:
DeleteGood times everytime I think about it. I had nothing to worry about. There was only one road and with all of us being photogs, you would have stopped for photos along the way too.
Enjoy your ride, see you on Saturday
The views remind me of happier times out west. Hey, is that another "Martha" competing with me?
ReplyDeleteMartha2:
Deletein the end, all we have are memories. Photos are just a stimulus to, we hope, trigger good times past. I can't wait for the good weather to arrive and be on the road again.
