Easter 2011

We have a grey market dealer in our area who specialize in selling bikes not originally imported into Canada. They also have unusual bikes for sale. They were originally located in Squamish but moved to Vancouver during the past couple of years and I had not been to their new location

P1060031

If you were looking for an all weather scooter, then you have come to the right place

P1060032
(complete with trunk and windshield wiper)

There are two rear wheels and the cab leans into the corners with you

They also import AIR BAG protective riding gear

P1060029

There is a tether which attaches to your bike. If for some reason you become "detached", the air bags automatically inflate various air chambers as a protective barrier

P1060028
(your choice of vest or jackets)

I haven't been able to ride for the past couple of weeks as I re-injured my left foot. It was actually a struggle even attempting to walk . I originally had a mishap many years ago while working on my car, which damaged my left tendon. I have stressed it many times over the years and recently stressed it again. I did see my doctor as I was afraid that I may have required orthotics . Luckily I just need to not walk so much and take anti-inflamatory medication.

P1060010

On Saturday it was a beautiful sunny day and with my errands done I decided to give it a try. I suited up and headed south towards the highway. It was a struggle working the gear shift lever due to my boots being not so flexible so I thought I would check out some other styles that would make it easier to walk in

P1060055

Imagine my surprise to see nearly every Triumph model on display. I wanted so much to throw my leg over a couple of these machines but with my foot not yet back to normal, I resisted.

P1060056

All I could do was touch and look. Then I wandered over to the BMW side. There's nothing wrong with just looking

I really liked this white Street Triple

P1060058

It has an unusual headlight system

P1060057

It was nice to get out on my bike again and experience the freedom of the road. I only did a short loop south to Richmond, then East to New Westminster taking a mixture of highway and urban roads. I didn't want to exercise my foot too much as it is more difficult to "lift" the lever. Clicking down is Okay. I didn't stop for any photos preferring to just watch the telephone poles blurr by .

Every year the Vintage Car Club of Canada puts on their Easter Parade with a display of classic cars

IMG_3331

This classic Bugatti caught my eye. It is such a beautiful car

IMG_3313

It is probably worth over a $1M , or how about an old Aston-Martin ?

IMG_3302

Probably during James Bond's grandfather's time

IMG_3301

the fenders move with the wheels

IMG_3297

it was a pleasure to see these old machines moving under their own power

IMG_3296

sometimes I think it would have been great to have been a teenager during the turn of the century and experiment with the possibilities of transporation that were being developed.

We were fortunate to be able to celebrate our Easter with family and enjoy a beautiful sunset

  1. Beautiful cars, with rain drops beading on their highly waxed surfaces...

Hope your foot recovers soon, Glacier NP isn't that far away!

  2. I hope your foot gets better soon, Bob. Glad you were able to get out for a ride.

    The Triumphs look real nice!

  3. Nice that you were able to get out for a ride. Did you find more flexible boots? Hope you foot heals soon.

These days, there are a lot of opportunities to explore new directions for transportation. Different challenges than a century ago. I like the drops on the shiny classics.

  4. Oh, an SR500! My third bike, I loved it.

You have been talking about the Striple one too many times. OK, when do you by one?

I hope that you will recover soon, and can go back on your two wheeler, where you belong.

  5. I join my hope with the others for a swift passing of your foot issue. The Street Triple is a very nice bike. I'm not sure I like the new headlight configuration, but I suspect I'd get used to it.

  6. Great pictures Bob. My favorites are the Triumphs, big surprise.

Hope your foot heals up before the consistently sunny days return. At least you got out for a quick ride.

And as Richard asks - did you find some new boots?

  7. It appears you are as much of a gear head as I am. Enjoyed the photos of bikes and cars.

Perhaps an electric shift bike is in the future? Or perhaps a course in being more careful to avoid left foot injuries!

  8. You'd have had to be in the top one percent of the landed gentry in 1900 to have access to internal combustion. Come to the US and you can watch us going back there. What would the bill have been for the foot surgery? What- nothing? Damned socialists enjoying a strong dollar and well regulated banks and free health care and funded schools. Whatever next.

  9. The all weather scooter looks cool, perfect to run errands ;-)
Love the old cars, hope your foot feels better.

  10. Beautiful old cars! It's really hard to beat those old styles, and classic lines. Good to hear you were able to get out on the bike, and hope your foot is better soon!

  11. Dear Bobscoot:

I am sorry to read that you are in such pain with your feet. Tendon issues tend to be dicey and likely to linger. Still, you managed to get on your bike and ride. Bravo. Nice picture of the Bugatti. I wish it was mine.

always nice to look at old cars but bikes are better. I'm getting better every day. Can't wait . . .

    Mike:

I had my eye on a used Triumph, but luckily, it sold

    RichardM:

Because of the internet and on-line shopping, few dealers carry much stock anymore. We have a poor selection of styles. I was looking for something like Gary France used

    SonjaM:

Not many used Striples for sale around here. We should go Half on one and just share it. There is a beautiful RED SRX600 around here, have seen it parked in front of Starbucks, Robson Street many times during the summer.

    Keith:

I really like the Street Triple. It feels so small. The front resembles a scooter

  13. Trobairitz:

No boots yet. I wanted something more suited for walking but with some MC protection.

I didn't want to rush my riding as if I put my full weight on it, it wouldn't be a good idea.

    Mr Iron-Gran-dad:

too bad I sold my big scooter. The automatic CVT would have been the short term solution. I don't really need another Riding Jacket right now. I still have a virtually new AST Olympia only worn on two trips, BUT they leak even though they are marked waterproof. They say the AST2 has solved the leaking problems

    Mr Conchscooter:

No doctor visitation bills, but I have to pay for the prescriptions. Not too late for you to immigrate to Point Roberts, WA. Sort of like KW, a dead-end peninsula with only one road in and cheap waterfront too.

    George:

That scooter would be better if it had a bigger engine. As it is only a 49cc you would be very limited in range and which roads you could travel on.

I really liked the Bugatti but I was told it was over a $1M. The engine sounded really nice too

    Bluekat:

I like to see old cars, but not to own one anymore. I had an older muscle car and glad I sold it. Much better for someone else to put $$ into it.

I like to shift gears and it only took a while for my foot to get back into the rhythm. I just don't want to move it too much yet, that's why I went on the highway, rather than in town

  14. Jack:

thank you for your kind wishes. Now that Spring is nearly here, I hope your pain subsides so you can ride too. Either that, or use your Smart Car to town your trailer. It is actually easier to ride my bike, than drive my car due to the clutch.

  15. Dear Bob:

The scooter in your second picture borrows a lot (or vice versa) from the BMW C1, which was released in 2001. It had a windshield, radio, roof, crash frame, truck/rear seat, and landing gear actuated by a lever on the handlebars. It had a 125 cc engine, and wouldn't get out of its own way. It did bot do well.

You need to check out boots like these:

    http://www.alpinestars.com/SMX_2_Boot/pd/c/111/np/111/p/222408.html

I just bought a pair and they are very easy to put on and walk in. But then again so are pink Crocs(tm)

All the best for speedy recovery from Wiesbaden, N

  17. I'm interested in that... interesting three wheeled contraption with the bag and windshield. Looks like it would be used to deliver beer to thirsty golfers, and like it would tip over a the first sight of any corner. Actually, I was in a three wheeled golf cart that did just that. I think that crash caused permanent brain damage.
