We got a late start

The intention was to hop into our car bright and early. 7am turned into 7:30am, the the delay at the Massey Tunnel consumed another half hour delay due to heavy traffic. Soon we had crossed the US/Cdn border and found ourselves deep into Oregon

we stopped at a place with lots of retired jets. It is cold down here. What happened to the heat of summer ? My advisor told me to bring lots of warm clothes, but his email came too late. I didn't pack any shoes

I was told that this model was used in the film "Top Gun" . This is the Ram Air

intake for the engine. Thank goodness it's not running right now or I would be in a million pieces . We drove and drove until we reached the ocean and the road ended

Then we went for dinner

After we filled our stomachs we headed back to our suite overlooking the ocean

we checked in earlier before sunset

there's nothing so satisfying than sitting in the dark by the fire and listening to the sounds of the pounding waves

When travelling we like to find places with a pool and spa (Hot tub). This time we lucked out with a deal on a suite with a jacuzzi . . . no swim suits required

  2. Hi Bob
The aviation museum looks great. I like looking at planes of all description especially world war 2 and fighter jets. Theres just something about them that floats mt boat. Looks like you've started your holiday on the right foot.

The traffic was at a standstill when we reached Portland. Dead stopped on the freeway, so we took the slow route through Tigard and it took 3 hours to go 80 miles. Got caught in construction zone and half an hour to go about 2 miles. This is the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, home of the Spruce Goose

  4. Looks like you found the Evergreen Museum. Did you go in and see the Spruce Goose? There sure are a lot of things to see in there.

It was chilly and overcast in the valley yesterday but we are supposed to be warmer today.

I think I got windchill today. Very cool as compared to where you are. Fleece and windbreakers nearly all day. Definitely shoe weather and I didn't bring any, but I am usually okay down to 10°c .

it's barely warm enough to consider this as summer. chilly at night when the sun goes down, but not too bad during the day. It should warm up tomorrow as we head towards the valley. I'm a sucker for sunsets

  7. One of the finest day's riding in my life was spent on the backroads in that area with locals.

  8. Nice to finally get to see Mrs. Skoot.

Did you know that the D River just lost it's place as a Guinness record holder for the world's shortest river 405' at high tide.

I have spent a lot of time on the Oregon coast and the wind on the beach really out the soul. Oh yeah, there's something about watching the waves roll in, and realizing that the next thing west from there is Japan!! Enjoy.

this trip was planned to be non-planned. Just relax, enjoy the sunshine, the water and do nothing. We have been on the coast several times and like to have an oceanfront view. I think you can see Japan on a very clear day

  9. Fast jets and fast cars - they really DO stir the soul! Unfortunately, we lack fast jets in NZ!

Fast cars and fast jets, what else is there ? However I would never use all that power anyway. I am too conservative and careful but it's nice to know that it is there, just waiting . . .

for some reason we haven't taken many road trips the past few years. We have been "off the continent" but you fly and rent a car on those trips. I like to go through the small towns and explore.
      . . . and what's wrong with my likeness ?
