Saturday, more bloggers arrive

This is a continuation of part one here.   This morning was a little more relaxed than yesterday as I didn't have to be at the Oakland International Airport until around 10 am.   I picked up my valuable cargo and headed towards downtown San Francisco

We are heading north on CA880 and go through this tube to drive onto the Bay Bridge

We are early and there seems to be much less traffic than yesterdays rush hour

We eventually make our way to Trobairitz' and Troubadour's base of operations for the next couple of days, and it is less and a block from Roger's headquarters .     After Trobairitz & Troubadour check in we head over to look for Roger . . .

Brad, Roger & Brandy

This is the first time we have all been together and it like we have always known each other.   It is now noon and time for lunch so we head over to a Thai Restaurant down the street when Roger unexpectedly brings out some keepsakes he has brought from the land of the Kiwi's

It feels like Christmas all over again as we rip open our packages

I have a jar or two of Honey, a special chocolate bar, a salt and pepper kiwi set and a Kiwi pin.  Many of you may not know that Roger is an accomplished musician who also writes his own  music.   Because we were meeting again the next day I asked him to hold onto my gifts but somehow I never got the CD back when we said our goodbyes

We were so busy catching up that we forgot to snap our food porno but after lunch we decided to go to SF Chinatown

Some of us spent an hour or so walking in and out of stores looking at all the merchandise

While others of us waited patiently outside snapping photos of each other

If you happened to be the owner of a Triumph Tiger, then you may be on the lookout for a Tiger hat, with the dangling balls . . .

You have to be careful where you point your camera.   Many stores do not allow you to take photos

but I have failing eyes and don't follow directions very well .  Sometimes looking turns into purchasing

when the price is right .   As you notice it is not a very warm day.   Cloudy and chilly

with the smell of rain in the air.   We eventually find ourselves at Fisherman's Wharf

where we again get a chance to play tourists, except that things are much more expensive down here

We all know that Trobairitz has an affection for Blue.  We couldn't help but notice this streamlined car

parked on the street with MFG licence plates.  We found out that Roger has a sweet tooth and headed into this candy store

where there are sweets for everyone

I can nearly taste these gummies from here

Notice that it is now starting to rain so we poke our heads inside this large bakery

then we find two familiar photographers trying to snap a photo of

Alcatraz in the distance.   We walk along the boardwalk to pier 39 where we join the other tourists

It's starting to rain a bit harder now.   It was Troubadour's idea for me to sprint ahead to get some frontal views

instead of always following behind

What better for a Vegan than a Vegan shirt ?   We soon got puckered out and headed back to a pub near the hotel.   Shopping and window shopping all day is thirsty work

Stay tuned, tomorrow more bloggers arrive   . . .      (to be continued)

  1. Wow, even more bloggers tomorrow. It looked like a cold, damp day in the City. You didn't walk from Chinatown to Fisherman's Wharf did you? Roger is going to think that our pastime is limited to eating and shopping. But then again, maybe it is...

Was the silver car a Tesla Model S? I have only seen pictures on the Internet.

SF weather was not much warmer than back at home. It was near freezing in the morning, 2°c where I was. I rented a car so we drove everywhere but parking was a pain and did I mention "expensive".

It was a 4 door Tesla, I didn't notice any model ID on the car. I wonder who is going to fix it when it breaks.

Yes, more bloggers for breakfast the next day

  2. This is really cool. Some foreign chap flies into SF and is greeted by friendly faces to show him around. Excellent! Look after him because he is going to cook Jackie and me some lamb next month!

Did Brad really buy that tiger hat? I guess he did....

It is always nice to put voices/faces to names. We are all friends who just haven't met yet. I think it is nice that we were able to show him a good time on his trip to North America and to keep him company for a few days.

Yes, Brad really bought that Tiger Hat. He wore it most of the day, but took it off in Fisherman's Wharf

Come'on over, we would show you around and feed you too. I think we all love to eat. If you ride your bike west, we can do that too

  4. At least we all made Roger walk on this trip. Offset the sweet tooth. Because he ate all the Kiwi Poop that he brought! :)

we drove most of the time to different areas, then we forced him to walk. He does have a sweet tooth, that was not the only candy store we went to. It's a hard job looking for souvenirs to take home

  5. Bob, your pictures make me want to go back there again. It looks like you guys has a good time. Did you make it over to Ghirardelli Square for something sweet?

It was not our intent to go everywhere, but just to hang out together and get to know each other. The rest of us were leaving on Monday, and Roger had planned to do some other City stuff/sightseeing for a few days before he leaves on Thursday, so I imagine he would have gone to Ghirardelli when we had gone.

The idea was that we would try to do stuff that involved a car so we spent some time touring an AirCraft Carrier, the Hornet II (more weekend stuff to be posted)

  6. Great photos Bob. How can anyone not enjoy a visit to SF?? I was there two years ago for my 5th or 6th time and I'd go back tomorrow if I could. Daughter and I didn't rent a car so i walked everywhere, at least when I wasn't on BART or the bus.

Looking forward to more. Stay well in that cool rain.

Renting a car has advantages if you travel out of the City but it is a problem for us as we can't walk far. This was also the first time I took BART but I had no one to show me how to get a ticket out of those machines.

If it were warmer I would have liked to go to Sausalito or over to Stinson Beach or perhaps south to Big Sur. Renting a car is cheaper than paying for parking

  7. Thanks for all the photos and recap of the day. We sure appreciated you picking us up from the airport and making sure we got to the hotel safely. I didn't realize you could multitask so well - taking pictures and driving on the freeway.

That blue hat sure was bright - good job i left it at the store.

And how did you like the lunch stop? The Golden Era was an all vegan restaurant we dragged you two to.

    1. Trobairitz:

You are most welcome, but I had to pass the OAK airport anyway and I don't like to drive alone. It was worth it for your Company. I am used to driving and "snapping" photos, just not in heavy traffic.

that blue hat suits you and matches your heated jacket but we would have to go back to SF Chinatown to find a less expensive one

The Golden Era was great. I love Tofu and didn't even realize it was Vegan. We could all go there again, next time

  8. Fun, fun, fun ... Bob sounds like the foot must be all mended if it managed to walk you around so many places. Photos of the Warf and China town were really bringing back memories. Can't wait to hear the 'rest of the story.'

    1. Karen:

I am not completely mended but we didn't really walk that far and I had GEL inserts in my shoes. We had the car and drove to different areas and parked. When you are going in and out of stores it isn't as strenuous as briskly walking so I was okay.

  9. Bob,
If I've interpreted Karen's "rest of story" correctly, that's what I'm waiting for too. You're too darned nice and non-controversial. Do we have to wait for Brad and Brandy to dish the dirt??? I'd seriously recommend that you put the boot in immediately because sure as heck, our Rogey won't be hanging back in his posts :-).

Great to see all you guys together. I don't see any signs of an interpreter though. Did Rog teach you to swear in Maori?

    1. Geoff:

I expected you to jump out of Rogey's suitcase. We needed an interpreter in the beginning but after a day or so we started to understand. By the time we arrive in Coromandel we could be talking like a local. We just have to practice riding on the wrong side of the road.

It's always great to meet new friends.

PS: there is No dirt, you forgot that I come from Canada

  10. Aaaahhhh Bob, how I wish we could have joined you! You guys look like you're having a great time! And just think. I was nursing my sprained knee the whole time you were yucking it up! :)

San Fran is a lovely place and I'm looking forward to going there soon for a few days myself.

    Stay dry Mister!

AAaaahhhh Tina, wished you could have come and brought Steve. One day we will get together. Hope your bike wasn't damaged, you should install frame sliders. Take it easy while your knee heals.

We get a lot of rain up here and I don't mind walking in it. Riding in it may be a different story

  11. Glad to see you guys all meet, the Kiwi didn't want to visit me in NJ/NY :-(
You bought the bent over girl :-)

I don't think Rogey was ignoring you intentionally, you could have joined us in SF. I know, the sign said "no photos", so naturally I had to take one. I was thinking the same thing "gummy boobs", my tongue would be been in boob heaven.

Hope you are well and have found "something" . . .

I was so glad that we had a chance to finally meet. I know I was very disappointed a couple of weeks ago when I got that "blog not found" error message and can't wait for you to republish, but I found your photo link. It is on my next post scheduled for tomorrow morning. I visit more than commenting.

Next time we have to do the Alameda theatre tour

make sure we know if you come this way. SFO is only a 2 or 3 day ride south from Vancouver. Or two hours by plane. I think it is much better to be south of the city or along the coast and go down to Big Sur or Morro Bay area, or north to the Redwood forest

  14. Just catching up with you now Bob. Looks like you are having a high old time with Trob and Troub enjoying all things Rogey. Have a great time in SF. We'll be there ourselves before long, but still not sure when. Happy New Year!

Yes, a great time was had by all. It is better to be there with "friends" than by yourself. Hard to walk around as things are too far to walk. The time before we just took the bus as the cable car was too busy
