Today is Chinese New Years. Mrs Skoot wanted to head down to Richmond to view the festivities. Richmond has the largest Oriental population in the Lower Mainland Area and Aberdeen Centre is one of the largest Asian Malls.
It is usual tradition for shop keepers to hang money in front of their stores. It is considered good luck for the Lion to dance in front and "capture" the funds.
Happy New Year to everyone, it is the year of the SNAKE. I was born in the year of the DOG, so I have nothing to celebrate. I don't need anymore birthdays
Happy New Year! I had mentioned to someone that it was the year of the snake and got a sour look....

DeleteI thought I would show you some of the festivities down in Richmond, which has a very large Asian community. You noticed that it was very busy down there
BTW, where are all the food pics? Isn't great food part of the festivities?
ReplyDeleteRichard:
Deletebecause this was held inside the mall, they didn't want to have "outside" vendors diluting their food sales. There is a large Oriental food fair on the 3rd level but it was too busy, so we went across the street to Tim Horton's instead
Happy New Year Bob!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a stunning celebration and now it's something I think I'll have to go see for myself. Considering that the motel we always stay at in Sydney when we visit is on the edge of chinatown I think we have no excuses not to go check it out one day.
I'm year of the dog too .. yay no birthday for me this year either :-D
Brenda:
Deletewell, you'll have to wait until next year now. We have Chinese communities throughout our area with celebrations going on, but we like to stay close to home and go to the largest one. There are numerous Asian malls and I am sure they were all having festivities . . .
Since you are also the Year of the Dog I think this makes us related.
Happy New Year Bob and Yvonne. (I was born in the year of the horse, next year! But who's having anymore birthdays anyway!)
ReplyDeleteKaren:
DeleteHappy New Year to you too. I guess you have to drive to Toronto in the snow to see the celebrations. You're right about not having anymore Birthdays . . .
Happy New Year! I'm a dragon and I'm sad to see my year slip past. I did receive a baseball cap with a dragon on it from my brother-in-law, and I bought myself a dragon belt buckle for good measure, and I set up a new dragon blog that I haven't kicked off yet. Susan is a snake, so this is her year. But she has a fear of snakes. All the very best to you and Yvonne for the new year!
ReplyDeleteDavid:
DeleteThis means NO birthday for you this year but Susan increments +1 . I don't like snakes either. I'm a Dog so if I am in a room with a snake, then guess who gets to slither out . . .
Happy New Year to you too
You had a terrific spot on the second level there to film the dancing. Happy Chinese New Year to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteI was born in the year of the Snake, guess I'm going to get even older this year...
Suzu:
DeleteIt was my job to report back on the festivities. It was crowded and I had to hold my camera above the crowds to capture the dancing. It is a large mall with 3 levels and they often have performances there. They built that stage above the fountain with water that dances to music.
Too bad about being a Snake, that means another year older this year
Happy New Year, bob! Heather is a Dragon and is mourning. I'm a Tiger. I hope we all have a fantastic year.

DeleteHappy New Year. Being the Year of the Snake also means you won't be getting older this year. I hope all of us have a fantastic year with lots of great riding . . .
