Ural Hack with Man's best friend
I am no different. I have several emails which I use for different purposes. I have Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail and also my personal email. Most emails from these providers keep your information in their "cloud" so somehow somebody got inside my Yahoo cloud and sent automatic spam to a few people using the contacts in my address book, which is also in their cloud. I like the idea of having access to email addresses which previously were only accessible on your home computer, which you keep at home but obviously your information isn't very secure as you have no control over the security of your private information

I think my own computer is safe enough as I have security software and I am careful which sites I venture to but I can't say the same for Yahoo or Hotmail. I know this security breach only affected my Yahoo account as I can tell from which addresses the spam was directed to. Recently I posted a link to my Yahoo email address so my followers could contact me but I never send email from yahoo. All replies are sent from my personal (real) email address
Gmail is the only email provider which can capture and redirect/forward emails from other providers so I use this for backup. It is automatic and I don't have to do anything except to go and delete the duplicates from time to time. For example recently I was forced to use Windows Live mail and I set my properties to "delete" copy from server. This means that the emails downloaded to my laptop are no longer accessible from an internet connection. If I need to access an email when I am not home all I do is log into Gmail and the duplicate should be there.

I should have known that something was wrong when I received an email from myself and I knew better than to "click" on it and I guess that's how the bug got in. Later I received over 30 emails on my Yahoo account with a delivery failure error.
Then I started to get emails from various friends asking what was going on
So if you happen to get one of these emails, it wasn't from me. I did not knowingly send them and I am sorry for the inconvenience. Just make sure you don't "click" nor "open" them. They will come from Yahoo and I do not use yahoo to send emails. I only use Yahoo to receive emails
This road may not look well traveled and it is difficult to hear the fast cars creeping up from behind me coming at high speed, but I did manage to get out of the way after I "clicked"
So my gut feeling didn't betray me. Because you are not the kind of person who sends around meaningless messages I have thrown your email into the electronic gutter. It sucks when these things happen. I guess we all have those backup email addresses that we use to filter out friends from well, not friends.

Deletethank you for putting me in your electronic gutter. This bug somehow got into Yahoo.com mail server. My laptop is secure (I hope). It even sent an email to my own email so I knew something was wrong. Too bad I deleted all the non delivery notices, otherwise I could have determined where these were sent.

Years ago something like that happened. It appered I was sending porn out to my addresses. It was not me. It still bothers me that this here machine can't be protected.

Since I've seen other like emails from friends, I knew yours was not legitimate.

Deletethanks. I didn't know where all these emails were sent. The only thing I can do is to delete my address book . . . that should do it.
If I had more parking and I lived where you lived, and I had bad weather like where you are then perhaps I would have a Hack to extend my riding season. I liked the Pup too but I usually don't approach without the owner's approval
I got the email as well but figured something was fishy since you don't usually send out emails with just a link.

Deletethankfully I didn't Infect You. (that sounded good didn't it ?), but you were using Apple OS so that helps. Just goes to show you that Yahoo doesn't have very good antivirus checking procedures, to allow an intruder to access my address book which is in their Yahoo Cloud

Deleteyour address is safely tucked in my personal directory. I have not had problems with my contact lists using Hotmail or Gmail but if this happens again I may delete my Yahoo contacts, then the emails will have no where to go.

Yes, that was a factory supplied HD, numbers matching to the bike. I didn't check but I was told that they stamp similar VIN #'s to both. They used to do this with certain cameras too where the lens or film magazines had the same last digits. It's the first thing to check if you are buying Hasselblad film magazines.
I don't know about the reverse option. If it's there the next time I'm going to crawl around and see
I read somewhere that Harley just recently discontinued their sidecars. Another piece of history gone:(
DeleteI've been wondering for some time ... why is it so easy for these infectious hackers to get in and I am having more and more difficulty proving I'm not a robot? I wish they would put their knowledge and problem solving skills to good use - who knows what could be accomplished...instead cyber vandalism and needles destruction!

Sucks about your email getting hacked, I really dont understand why people do this stuff, but sounds like it hasn't affected anyone so that's good. Was a good idea to put this post up here Bob.
ReplyDeleteOn to the more important things ... I love that puppy, he/she is probably the same breed as my baby girl .. american staffy (I could be wrong) but it looks like it enjoys going for a ride. My girl loves the car but when the bikes start up she runs ... she followed me around on the scooter sometimes but wouldn't sit on it for long. I think her backside is just too big .. maybe if I got a sidecar for her to sit in like that she'd be happier :)

Deletewe used to have two dogs and we took them everywhere. Back then we had a pickup truck. We'd go to the river, walks and they were like family always happy to see us arrive home
but it ties you down. You need a dog sitter when you go on vacation. so for now we will do without. the best thing would be to "borrow" some one else's dog . . .

DeleteCute dog...I see the owner was smart enough to put a "seat belt" on the dog so as not to lose the dog along the way should a squirrel get his/her attention. Our own dog goes into frantic barking mode when he hears our motorcycles start up - that dog looks pretty calm indeed.

I like dogs too but not now. This is the time for more freedom and not being tied down having to get dog sitters every time you want to get away
I did not get one of those emails either. It is rather awkward too that someone made you you look like you are sending spam messages to people. Am so sorry bob that this happened to you and hope that people will understand the situation.
