Sluggish Saturday

It was a beautiful weekend when I got my bike ready early Saturday morning and headed towards breakfast with "the guys".   It was nice to be on the road and feeling the freedom of riding on two wheels as I snaked my way south down Oak Street.  Today I had big plans to ride somewhere different so after chatting and filling our bellies we asked for the bill and when I reached into my pocket . . .  I quickly discovered that I had forgotten my wallet.  With no funds to pay for my meal I had to beg my friends to loan me enough to cover my tab.   I mean, how embarrassing .   Oh well, it will be my turn to pay next week

Now that I don't have my wallet, this also means that I have no ID and no driver's license so I had to head home to retrieve it.   I took off my riding gear and began to enjoy the heat of the sun

and also to enjoy our newly poured sidewalk and new lawn.   It's hard to believe that just days ago it looked like a construction site

but now it is all neat and tidy

We were told that we have to keep our lawn watered so we had to buy new sprinklers and garden hose and for the past few days we have been moving them around to keep the brown spots away.   It was so nice to just sit in the sun and enjoy the warmth of a Spring day.  Thoughts of riding evaporated as I relaxed and took a short nap.   I napped inside and then outside on our porch.   9:30 am quickly turned into 3:00 pm and I thought that this was a complete waste of a perfect day for riding.  I was feeling a bit guilty so I geared up and rode my usual route which was a mix of a bit of highway and secondary roads

I stopped to take a few photos at this dock

For some reason the river levels seemed very low for this time of year

This is a quiet road which follows the Fraser River

This is an alternative to the freeway which parallels a bit farther south

The following images were taken on Easter Sunday at the Vintage/Classic car display at Oakridge Shopping Centre

And beside this Royal Enfield was this beauty

and of course a shot of the cockpit, instrument panel

It was a beautiful Easter Sunday and of course I got to wear my shorts and sandals.

I hope all of you had a relaxing Easter too

  1. It looks like you got a nice ride even though I don't think you should feel compelled to ride. If you don't really need/want to go anywhere, then why. I had a ectic Saturday and a busy Sunday.but enjoyed the little bit of riding that I managed to fit in.

Nice looking lawn and walk. How much longer before you have a driveway?

it was such a perfect day, the best day of the year, the day we have all been waiting for and I squandered it just relaxing and breathing in the warm air, and napping. I felt guilty. Other than commuting to work, Saturday is my only day to ride to far away places. Sunday is normally a car/drive/brunch/phototaking day

It's a pain to have to water and move the sprinklers around until the grass takes hold and bonds to the dirt below. Under the City bylaws we are not allowed to cement in a driveway. They will send out another inspector a year from now to check and we would have to remove it. So I will have to drive over gravel & grass to get to my carport

  2. There s nothing better than snoozing in the sunshine, it wasn't a waste at all, you were just solar charging your body. :) Kirk and I went for a long ride on Saturday and I stayed home Sunday and made turkey for dinner. Monday I went for a short ride, but my heart wasnt in it at all.

it really felt a bit too warm in the sun. I had to grab my hat. I liked the idea of "solar charging" .

we had our Turkey on Friday. Sometimes I find that riding by yourself to all your usual places is a bit boring and you just don't feel like traveling farther with no purpose. Even when I ride somewhere I just sit in the Sun when I get there but then I can do that at home

    2. I hear you about riding the usual places. For the first time in a long time I had no desire to be out on the bike on Monday. I met up with a couple of girlfriends for coffee and I just wanted to get back home and veg. I just didn't feel like riding the same route and stopping in the same places. Usually when I feel that way I tend to stay off the bike because the universe is telling me something.

that's one of the problems of having no one to ride with. You just get tired of riding the same roads and you don't want to ride a long distance with no company. Most of the roads within a day radius I have ridden many times.

  3. Hey Bob,

Your drive way looks fantastic. I wish I could hire those guys to do mine in Oklahoma. Mine has several cracks because of seasonal contractions....:-(. Looks great! That orange bike is one strange looking contraption...haha. I have never seen anything like that!

I nearly rode up to Squamish to find you. Lucky thing I didn't cause you were away. We like our sidewalk too, much wider than our interlocking brick one. There were always weeds growing between, now this looks much cleaner.

  4. Wow, that is a long walkway to the front door. Grass looks great though. Nice looking Royal Enfield too.

I am glad you just forgot your wallet as opposed to have lost it riding. That happened to RickRick one time. He forgot to close a pocket or tank bag after filling the bike with fuel and paying. Lost it on the freeway somewhere never to be seen again.

It seems like a long walk but the wide angle makes it appear longer than it is. The grass is green for now, but with the sun we have to keep it watered until the roots grown and hold it to the soil below.

Whenever we have visitors I move my wallet out of sight. Usually I leave it on the hallway table and when I get my things ready I just grab my stuff and fill my pockets. Because my wallet was not visible I forgot to grab it. I try to keep my wallet/ID in a zippered pocket and with me rather than in a tank bag.

  5. Bob,
From Minnesota it looks like you've gone straight to summer.....I'm just not seeing much spring in your photos. A nap, sunny riding, green grass......you sir are living life large!

Our summer was short lived. We are now back to torrents of rain with a few storms blowing in from the ocean. We are forecast for more rain in the next day than we have received during the past month.

I keep thinking about your driveway and the river caused by the melting snow.

You do have a way with words but that's a perfect description. Our Vintage motorcycle swap meet is coming up. There should be lots of bikes on display to snap photos of, plus many are for sale too

  7. The new lawn and walk looks great Bob. The laneway access will be handy too. Sometimes a nap is as good as a ride, if you dream about riding....haha.

I am not a gardener, it's too much work. Lucky we are getting lots of rain. I was getting tired moving the sprinklers around. Now our new grass will get the water it needs.

It felt so warm in the sun. I thought for a moment, full gear OR just nap in the sun. and the shorts and sandals won, and I got to nap too

I had no particular place to go so I just relaxed most of the day and at the last moment felt guilty and went for a short ride. I'm learning to relax to get practice for retirement mode

  9. Bob - work is something you "have to," riding is something you "can do ... if you want to, but don't have to ... if the sun is calling."
But really, I think your riding season must be too long { :o) } if you have already traveled the same roads too many times and are already bored...Here's to new roads ahead!

I think that's the problem. I need to find new roads, find new sights meet new people. I don't feel like riding afar by myself as I have no riding buddy.

the sun was calling my name. Riding boots or no riding boots, and the no boot option won

  10. Bob, I didn't actually read the other comments; Is that you sleeping on the lawn? i now understand how happy you are to have a new lawn. It's very beautiful. And your bike, the color thrills me. Good work.

Yes, Black is a thrilling colour. I don't need any tires. I just purchased a set of Anakee2's so I am good for another year or so

  11. Bob, first, that is one GORGEOUS lawn. Second, that is one GORGEOUS walkway.

Does it freak you out that no matter how hard you try, Mother Nature is striving with all her wiles to reclaim what is her's?

Third, don't you find it ironic that you had to buy sprinklers in Vancouver?

Well, our sidewalk is much better than the old one. I like it because it is much wider and doesn't have weeds growing between the pavers. I liked our old grass because I didn't have to take care of it. I would let it go brown during the summer. Now I had to take care of it. It cuts into my free time

Lucky it is raining. I don't have to drag those sprinklers around this weekend

  12. Like a day you dream of during the harshness of winter!

    Awesome!

And your yard looks spiffy too!

I saw a V-Strom in our parking lot yesterday and thought of you!

Glad you had a wonderful time out on your machine in the sunshine.

Still pretty cold here, but I am hoping to get in a ride soon.
