Meandering with Wayne

Yes, this is the same Wayne as in Meandering in Lotus Land  .   He is prolific with his camera and you will usually find him wearing his trademark hat.  Actually I have never seen him without a hat.   If you follow his blog you will become intimate with the real Vancouver.  He has a way with words.   I manage to bump into Wayne now and again and today we managed to meet up by chance at the Easter Parade of vintage & classic cars at the Oakridge Shopping Centre

Here he is doing his magic with that Messerschmitt KR175/200 in the background.  He is very deliberate in his "framing the image" technique.   I try to be careful not to disturb the Master in action

He managed to spare a few hours so we went for lunch in Ladner and enjoyed our meal under the warm Spring sunshine where he talked about his recent travels.

As photographers were are always looking for "texture" shots and the river level was much lower than usual

    Ladner, BC   just behind Sharkey's

We had a relaxing lunch and then decided to head over to the George C Reifel bird sanctuary on Westham Island

    Catching Wayne in action

Where there were a Gazillion Ducks there waiting for a handout of bird seed.  There were brown ones, and ones with green heads (technical terms) , along with a few geese.    I am sure there were more inside but we didn't bring gumboots (bird poop), nor did we wish to spurge for admission

Did I mention that the river levels seemed very low.   That is a new floating home community in the background.

We really lucked out with good weather and warm temperatures.  It nearly felt like summer.  And to Wayne,  thank you for allowing us to spend a few hours together.  We should do it again sometime soon . . .

Golly Gee Whiz. I usually/most always wear a hat during the Summer too, but my hat isn't as elegant or classy as Wayne's

I consider Shoes to be work attire . . .

  2. So Bob, did the woman become aware of Wayne's shooting or did she just walk into the shot? ;)

I gather you went to Wayne's photo gallery. She was just a random spectator who was moving in and out of view with our cameras. There was another one wearing Pink Bunny Ears. It is easier for Wayne as he was using his new telephoto, whereas I only had my wide angle lens. He was using his new Nikon D600 full frame sensor camera .

LOL... Maybe more commonly known as Mallard ducks

Looks like a beautiful Sunday, we had snow...

That's it ! Mallards ! I think the ones with the green head wear were called "friends of Mallards".

It really was a warm day, T-shirt and shorts weather, felt like summer. At least you got out for a ride on your WR250 . . .

  4. Nothing quite as relaxing as meandering with a camera and a friend.

I'm a bit envious of the sunshine and warm weather you seem to have.

Walking and talking with Wayne while snapping photos was like the old days when we used to shoot a roll or two of film, then have coffee while waiting for the lab to develop them.

so sorry for your broken fuel pump. I hope they can get one fast and not wait for the slow Italian boat. We had a great weekend but all things must come to an end. Rain is forecast later this week, but at least it isn't snow . . .

Thank you for your Company. Somehow I just knew I would see you there. There I was snapping photos of those MGTC's and noticed you walking past.

  6. I was going to tell you they were Mallard ducks but Erik beat me to it. The brown one are the females and the "green heads" are the males.

It looks like a great day to wander. It is nice that you ran into a friend and were able to spend the day taking pics.

at least I got the Duck part right. There were so many ducks there living the good life as everyone were throwing seeds for them to eat.

We usually spend our time on Sundays driving around and taking pictures anyway so we asked Wayne if he wanted to join us for a few hours. It was great to just go with the flow with no particular destination in mind.

Your Saturday was much warmer than ours but it still felt too hot. I know, one weekend of Sun and we are complaining already

  7. These photos make me yearn for Spring and riding. We're just losing our snow coverage and temps still pretty low. Can't wait to get out there and enjoy the warm sun too!

Your time will come soon enough. We have rain forecast for later this week but at least our temps are getting warmer. We managed to get an outside table for lunch and the temps were just perfect. Not too hot, nor too cold.

He is thorough in his coverage of Vancouver. I recognize where many of his images were taken, and often we are just days apart from being in the same place.

Photographers are like bikers. Once you get together, even those whom you had just met, it is as if you were old friends.

I usually spend Sundays driving around and taking photos in different areas. It was nice to have company for a few hours.

thank you for stopping by, I missed you.

I think Wayne has an expanding head band. He deserves some recognition now and again. You know how it is. I used to walk around with other photographers and we would always be snapping photos of each other. It was pure luck that we managed to be at the same place at the same time.

  12. No such spring here (can't see the ducks through the blinding snow!) ... but I love the photo of Wayne and the Ducks, so candid.

  13. I bet you are also a great photographer Bob; capturing the photo of a photographer(Wayne) taking a photo. Huh! That's quite something. And that river with no water Photo is great. Nice.
