I don't know whether

my bike was tampered with or not.  We have a sealed yard but due to our construction project we have had to park our vehicles on the street and someone slashed my top during the summer.   We also have a sealed back yard which was fenced in with gates.  Because of the debris and sand, I have not been checking on my bikes which are both covered and plugged into battery tenders.

A couple of days ago "they" ripped down our fence and removed our gates so now our yard is wide open for anyone to see.   I leave before sunrise, and get home after sunset so I didn't bother to go to our back yard

but this morning before breakfast I went to check on my bikes and Nu2Me (My BMW R1200R) was Naked.   The bike cover was OFF and off to the side.   The bike was uncovered as if someone purposely removed it.  I don't think the wind could have done it, but I am not sure.  We did have some wind a couple of days ago and with the gate removed it could have "lifted" it OFF.

We don't live in a bad area but we do have two schools a couple of blocks away.  I am not sure what to think but by removing the bike cover they now know what was under there.  I checked and there doesn't appear to be anything missing.  All my RAM mounts are there and nothing seems out of place.

The Deere machine came back and presumably they are working on our driveway, and front sidewalk, so now I have to turn my bikes around and use the narrow sidewalk out to the front

The temperatures have been hovering around 3°c (37°F)  all morning but the frost seems to have melted so I did what our Eastern Blogging friends can't do.  I used my compressor to check my tires and got my bike ready to ride.

    and I did .                                                       (to be continued . . .)

  1. Do you have a lock on the bike tire? You need to post a sign "This area under video surveillance" that might be a deterrent. I would consider an alarm too.

I have Kryptonite cables and Zena Alarmed disk lock but it wasn't necessary behind secured locked gates and a fenced yard. It's just that we have contruction going on and things are beyond my control right now. We are probably going to install IP type cameras

  2. It's so unnerving to even imagine that personal things are being tampered with. I'm glad that nothing has really been tampered with or taken.

It may have been the wind so I don't know if anything was taken. At first glance all is okay. Sometimes you don't realize what was taken until you need it. We had a burglary a long time ago and we gave a list to our Insurance Company of the items taken. We thought we had found all the items, but even a year later we discovered more missing "stuff". They stole all my cameras.

  3. Try not to be too worried. I've had the cover taken off mine, and displaced like that by the wind. Maybe get some bungees and bring the bottom closer together so the wind can't get it, or make it more difficult for anyone that might be tampering. And get that fence back up...

I am thinking that perhaps it WAS the wind, as the cover on my Vstrom was still in place, but that cover has a velcro strap to secure the other side. The half cover on my "R", can catch the wind easier.

The plan is to make a new driveway and put up a new fence and pour a wider sidewalk on the side of our house, so this situation is temporary

  4. Maybe time for a motion sensitive "trail camera"???

I was thinking of a motion sensitive security camera, but we have to build a new carport first

My cover has tie down velcro straps that stops the wind up the kilt effect.
    N froover here.

My full cover has the velcro straps, but not my half cover. I could tie a rope around it to keep it in place

  6. I think that your "R" bike didn't like being cooped up in the carport and wanted to get out on the road.

My insurance runs out next week and it costs too much to insure my "R" all year round so I had to give it a run and put in fuel stabilizer. The Strom is my rounder

  7. Try and give people the benefit of the doubt and hope the wind did it. If it was a person and were just peeking the probably would have covered it back up so no one would notice.

That is quite the interesting shape for the laneway house. Does the whole thing have a barrel top? I think you two need to move into the nice new green friendly house.

The more I think about it the more I believe that it COULD have been the wind, buy my half cover is very skin tight and not easy to remove, but we did have wind a couple of days ago.

You're right, if someone wanted to peek, they wouldn't have removed the cover

  8. It is odd that the cover on one bike was off but not the other. Construction sites do attract prowlers looking for tools and equipment so best chain up your compressors, ladders, shovels and extension cords. Anything light weight that they can carry away and pawn for quick cash.
A motion sensor security light and audible alarm may deter them, but I would ask the contractor for an estimate to wall in, install a door and wire lights in your carport while they are there. Good luck catching the culprit.

You're right. The workers have lots of tools laying around, ladders, compressors, pry bars and they are untouched.

Removable of the fence and gates are just temporary. They have to pour a new front sidewalk and rear driveway, and construct a new fence and gate. This time the gate will be wider so I can move my bikes through more easily

  9. Bob - Like a couple of others have noted it could well be the wind. Years ago we lived in a town home with no indoor parking so my bike was outdoors year round, under a cover. The wind would frequently lift it off until I started using a bungee cord to hold it in place.

All of you may be right. It might have been the wind but I will check more often to make sure they are okay. I have to park outside but under cover.

  10. I've had the cover on my bike blow off a couple of times in strong wind, it has a clip underneath that pulls it together but I get slack and cant be bothered doing it up at times so yes they can blow off. The funny thing is that mine will blow off but hubbys never has, must be something about the shape and heaviness of the material I guess.

A motion sensor light is always useful tho, even after the construction is over. Not if you have wildlife around tho.

Isn't that the way. Hubby gets the better, heavier material, waterproof bike cover and you get the one that will "just do" the job.

I do have lights on but maybe I will change it for a motion type, with a small audible buzzer
