I had great plans. We were experiencing Winter's last gasp all week with snow, frost, high winds and cool temperatures
Clouds over Steveston, BC
which made me decide not to ride. I don't normally ride when the temps are lower than 4°c and I have learned to not take any chances when it comes to tire traction & slippery roads. The rain was scheduled to stop on Friday evening and with a dry weekend forecast, my plan was to go for a ride on Saturday
Garry Point, Steveston, BC
But, alas . . . it was not to be. I forgot that we had set Saturday aside for car browsing. We had also made an appointment for vehicle service at the local dealership and we changed our Brunch location co-incidently to a place directly across the street from where I was going to meet up with Mrs Skoot. I was also considering a vehicle upgrade so I wanted to bring my car too, so riding was out of the question
Winter storm coming from the West
We visited a few dealerships as we wanted to compare a few other Makes & Models and it is amazing how much time can be wasted
South Arm Fraser River, YVR in foreground, Grouse Mountain in the background
Soon enough my Saturday was completely consumed and the day was done .
We purchased our Subaru WRX sportwagon brand new in 2004 and it has been a reliable car, but after 8 years, we thought it was time to upgrade
Gulf of Georgia Cannery, Steveston, BC
Not knowing how long it will be in our possession we thought that a few parting photos were in order, so with a declining sun on Sunday afternoon we snapped a few photos with some water backgrounds in historic Steveston
My tattered jeans have sprouted another rip. Maybe no one will notice. The increased air conditioning will come in handy during the heat of summer
Note: All photos, Sony NEX-5n, 18-55 kit lens DRO: Dynamic Range Optimizer mode
Bye little Subie. So what did Yvonne decide to get?
ReplyDeleteTroubadour:
DeleteIt was a good car, lots of power but ate gas. Those WRX's are not fuel efficient and the style was getting a bit dated. They did not have the colour of the one we wanted, so they are searching . . . so until they find one we can't reveal yet.
My fear is that it's not the last gasp!
ReplyDeleteThe clouds in the first pic are awesome! Very dramatic. Looks like you had a pretty nice weekend. I hate car shopping. I like cars and all, but the whole wheeling/dealing business is very tiresome. Very pretty series of pics!
BlueKat:
DeleteThose were "fresh" photos from Sunday afternoon, in between storms. We also had hail before the sun came out, so the clouds were angry. Whenever we see clouds we think of Martha (Living among Tourists).
We don't like shopping for cars either, but we wanted to check out a few different models. We went to one dealer TWICE, and both times we didn't get served, so we left. Our dealer was very friendly, no hagglig and up front with everything
Bob,
ReplyDeleteWhat's the plan? What do you like? That WRX is hardly an old man's car - have you got something else like that in mind? Also, your photo with the cattails struck me as quite pleasant. Pleasant may not be very exciting, but that's how I was struck.

Brady:
Deletethe light was fading fast because of the dark storm clouds. When I noticed the cattails, and the mountains with fresh snow, I just had to stop for the photo. I should have brought a longer lens. It was pleasant and chilly by the water
All great shops, but I'm with Bluekat, loved the clouds in the first photo.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just hate car shopping. I don't enjoy it much but driving a new car is fun. Have you two made any decisions yet?
Trobairitz:
DeleteRe: the first photo, I was drawn to "Martha's" Clouds. It is hard to see but Mt Baker is in the background.
Car shopping is better than what it used to be. No more hassle and upfront pricing, mostly. Deposit processed, car on order, waiting for them to find one. Reveal to come . . .
Can't wait to see what you guys chose...... will try and be patient.
DeleteTrobairitz:
Deletethe deal's not done until they "find" the car. They didn't have one in stock, so they have to check the Manufacturer's Depot. If there is not one there, then they may have to order from the factory, or we can take a "lesser" model. so we don't know ourselves, yet
I like the texture of the driftwood but also the one with the cattails. Our recent vehicle purchase was made almost sight unseen while the vehicle was still in transit. I stopped by the dealer last October to look at one but my wife was too busy to stop by the dealer. And they didn't have any on the lot.
ReplyDeleteRichard:
DeleteI noticed your new Toyota Prius V. We also went to see the Toyotas but we liked the Scion xB (I think). It was square like a miniature Honda Element. We also liked the idea of the Mazda5 with the sliding doors, and the new CX-5
Dear Bobskoot:
ReplyDeleteThe picture of Garry Point is hauntingly beautiful. The shot of the fishing boats looks like it could have been taken in the center of Cape May, NJ. These are the kinds of pictures I like most in your blogs. I remember the first times I came across your blog and was delighted by places around Vancouver that I never knew existed. The shot of Grouse Mountain is cool too. Very well done.
Fondest regards,

DeleteIf I could (Time & $$), I would ride my bike to Cape May, NJ and spend a few days with you and you could show me some scenic places you've written about. I'm thinking most likely in a couple of years.
Consumer Reports really likes the new Impreza. (36 mpg). Just Sayin'
ReplyDeleteJimbo/cpa3485:
DeleteYep, the new Imprezza is really fuel efficient. Complete redesign for 2012
Man I hate car shopping....seriously one of my per hates, now bike shopping there is something completly different!
ReplyDeleteRoger:
DeleteI know exactly what you mean. Bike shopping is a pleasure, especially the testing part
I actually favor the third image with the line along the wood to the storm clouds. I love car shopping. But I havent partaken in years. I used to have a calculator that had the amortization schedule built in. I was able to plug in all the numbers and always determine how much they were charging me for everything. The salesmen hated it. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteEagerly awaiting news...
Steel CupCake:
DeleteI was losing light fast. After that shot, the sun went behind the clouds never to be seen again. Cars are a necessary evil, we need them because of our Winter season, too bad we couldn't just have Summer, all the time . . . like in CA, FL or HI
I used to have the same Subaru. What a car! The power and corners it could take- wow.
ReplyDeleteReally like the driftwood photos.
Martha:
Deletethe WRX is great but we thought that being 8 years old and Turbo, we should consider something newer, with a current body style
OH! I missed the comments about "my" clouds! How sweet! If I am remembered forever in that way I will have lived a great life! What a compliment, Bob. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMartha:
DeleteI think that all of us have a greater appreciation for "Martha's Clouds". Perhaps we should start an appreciation society out West. I also saw a biography about Ansel Adams and his vision was to accentuate the bigger sky, thus he raised the horizon on his later work to include more clouds. The first thing I do now is to look up and see if there are any "Martha's Clouds" before I snap a photo. I should have put a link on the main entry, rather than refer to your clouds in our comments
I absolutely LOVE the Fraser River pic with the cloud-topped mountain in the background.
ReplyDeleteToadMama/Kathy:
Deletethank you. I am able to do lower perspectives now that I have an articulating screen on my camera.
