Clumsy Me

This morning I did something stupid and crushed my finger

P1010555

It really hurt and took a few moments before it settled down and became bearable. Now it doesn't look that bad but as the day marched on, it got worse and started to go darker

P1010565

We went out for a short ride, had brunch and did a bit of shopping. The we cut the afternoon short and headed for home as I had to cut the grass again. This time of year the grass grows like weeds. It was only last week that I did the cutting and now it needs to be cut again

P1010579

I changed into my grass cutting suit and got my lawnmower out. I could feel my finger starting to ache again but I managed to cut both my front and rear lawn. This time I also started my gas weed trimmer and trimmed the whole yard. It is nearly a 2 hour ordeal . . .

P1010581

By now my finger is acting up and complaining. It is starting to throb. Right now even on the keyboard it feels very tender. I guess I am stressing it too much as it is getting a bit red and swelling up

P1010583

I suppose having to cut the grass is one of life's necessary chores but for some reason it always gives me green feet. I must be doing something wrong

Grass exercise from last week

We decide to have our first BBQ of the year and after dinner after I am all cleaned up, my finger is feeling worse than ever. It hurts more than ever. It is my clutch hand and I don't think I will be

P1010586

able to ride my bike for a few days

  1. Ouch! When Rich does that, he heats up a needle and pokes it through the nail to release the blood. He says it's instant relief.

OH NO ! NOT the NEEDLE ! I am a chicken, I don't think I could have it done

  2. I'm with Biker Baby - exactly what I've done in the past with instant success.

Are you going to give us details of the "something stupid"????

I can't bear to have the "needle" treatment. I'll just slug it out and endure the pain

  3. Ouch! It makes me feel weak in the knees just looking at this. If you can't do the heated need trick, go see a doc and they will take care of it, probably taking an OTC anti-inflammatory would be good too, but I think it's only going to be relieved by reducing the pressure in the nail. OUCHIE OUCHIE OUCHIE !!!!

It was a BIG OUCHIE ! but I am a chicken. I don't like needles. If I wait long enough it will go away, just like it never happened

  4. I've never done the needle thing personally, but hear that's the only thing to relieve the pain. I cringe just thinking about all of it (accident, swelling, pain, needle...). Ouch!

Ever think of buying a goat? They say you just need to remember to move them periodically and they'll keep your lawn nice and trim.

I've never done the needle thing, and I'm not doing it now either. A goat is a great idea, I could just sit on top and get free rides

  5. Heated needle or go to your dentist. Mine drilled a hole in my nail once to relieve the pressure. It's about the only thing that's going to make it quite hurting. Looks painful... sorry. :(

I actually rode my bike to the dentist this morning and you would be proud of me, I didn't even mention my blood clot. It is still swollen a bit but I am using different fingers to pull the clutch lever

  6. If you think your feet got dirty with just grass, imagine what they'd look like with a goat leaving fertilizer on the lawn.

I do like the picture of you sitting down where we can see your dirty feet.

Ouch on your finger. I think I'd be too chicken to stab it with a needle too.

actually it feels quite liberating. Just step into some gunk and once you're dirty it doesn't matter anymore. You get to feel all the ground surfaces, cold, hot or wet. You probably never thought about this but once your feet are dirty and you put on your crocs or sandals, then you will get them dirty too, so it is better to be shoeless the whole time.

The day started off so nice, I rode my bike anyway even though my finger is still a bit swollen. Hope you are feeling better

  7. Bob, Bob, Bob... there you go again sticking your finger where it doesn't belong. I've heard the needle trick works but I'm not so sure I could do it either.
You are the only person I know who would video themselves cutting the grass, awesome! I'm more of a round the perimeter and work toward the center kinda guy. I'll almost bet that the grass grows fast enough to time lapse photograph it.

stupid me . . . I heard about the needle trick, but NO, not for me thankyou. I usually go around the perimeter and work my lines from one side to the other. I like to see the straight wheel marks along the whole length. Once it gets hotter the grass will stop growing so much. It takes me over 2 hours to cut front and back, plus trimming.

You are lucky . . . you could get "you know who" to cut the grass while you are "on the range" (Wink wink)

How is your video editing going? If you need any practice clips you could do a video of cutting your lawn, or perhaps watering your lawn.

    2. I would edit video but I was busy cutting my lawn tonight.

I would rather be doing what you are doing than mowing the lawn, however I would be heading South, not North. And I have been riding to work

  9. I can't get green grass feet mowing my lawn. The riding mower is more conducive to red feet. And now that the mowers do the mowing, I can sit back and just look t my pretty lawn. :)

I need you to post photos of your RED feet, otherwise it didn't happen. I wished I had a riding mower, but I think our yard isn't big enough for one.

  10. Ouchy! It hurts just looking at it. Hope it gets better soon and you don't lose your nail over it.

I doesn't look so good, all black now and a bit swollen but I have been riding my bike anyway. If I paint all my nails with black nail polish I don't think you would notice it

  11. Bob, mowing the lawn in bare feet? Aren't you supposed the be wearing steel-toe boots? Shoveling your driveway in bare feet which I've also seen you do, did that give you white feet? That's frost bite don't you know? What's next? Crushing grapes to make wine, now that'll get you proper red feet. Red, white and green feet, time for something Italian! How about a Vespa or a Ducati?

I love the freedom of not being trapped in shoes. I wear shoes at work, but it's the first thing I get rid of when I am on My time. I live in shorts & sandals, but I have to wear boots whilst riding but I ditch them as soon as I am able.
