Mooning

It's Thursday and tomorrow is Good Friday, a statutory holiday in Canada. We are in a good mood knowing we have a 3 day long weekend so I went downtown to meet Mrs Skoot when I noticed

a bright, wide-eyed moon up in the sky. Orin (from Bellingham, WA) was in town to attend the Vancouver Auto Show and we had planned to meet for dinner, but first we had to have some decadent ice-cream

We talked about this and that, took photos of each other and had a great meal at a very busy, popular Cambodian Restaurant where we had to wait an hour for a table. Soon we were finished and it was time to part ways

We may have arrived hungry but they had to roll us out, as you notice we nearly licked the plates clean. (I did take a few photos of our food but I leave it for Orin to make his blog post first)

I couldn't get that moon out of my mind, so when I arrived home, I dragged out my Camera, tripod and telephoto lens. Yes, the same Nikon 70-300mm zoom I used on the previous posts and tried to photograph the moon for you. It wasn't easy, I had to fiddle with the settings but eventually I ended up with something good enough to post

    I'm glad that wasn't the mooning I was thinking of from your post title.... ;-)

    That last shot is beautiful Bobskoot, you need to print it and frame it. I remember in high school learning about the maria (the dark areas named after the latin for 'seas') I still have to say the name maria every time I see the moon so I don't forget.

    Looks like you had a great visit with Orin. Looking forward to the write ups.

      I am not sure what kind of mooning you are referring to. it wasn't easy making that shot. This is where you need an adjustable camera, I had to shoot full manual mode

    Very nice shot of the moon. I used to take pictures of the moon through my small reflector telescope when I was a kid but the sky was never dark enough to get a satisfactory photo. It makes me think of the moon landings again...

      the moon is out again tonight, but there are clouds in front making it a bit hazy. Yesterday it was perfectly clear.

    I've never managed a photo of the moon as good as the one you posted. Great shot. And the portrait of Orin... I always imagined he's the the thoughtful type and you captured that feeling.

    That food spread looks exotic compared to the hot dogs, chips and bacon and egg breakfasts I indulge... Must be a Pacific northwest thing...

      Thank you, but you being the Master I can't imagine you not coming up with a moon shot. I needed more than -2EC so I switched to manual mode but I was getting a lot of vibrations as I do not have a mount on the telephoto, I had to mount the body with the lens on the end. Then I "loaded" my weight on the tripod and used the self timer. Oh almost forgot, I had to remove the filter as it was causing a double reflected image.

      I always seem to order the same thing and I have bacon & eggs every saturday morning with "the guys"

    Wow! A hauntingly beautiful moon shot! It reminds me of that song by Neil Diamond about how we all gazed on the eternal moon!

    Bob, when I saw the post title, and considering your penchant for al-fresco naked-feet pics, I was more than a little concerned when I clicked on the link.

    Colour me relieved that when the post turned out to be astronomical and not anatomical.

    Nice picture of Orin. He offered to come up in May for the blogger confab. Speaking of which, it will soon be time to do a little planning. A few more sleeps to go.

      Did you expect other than astronomical ? Bellingham isn't very far away, it's just the border lines that take up too much time
