There is currently a challenge from Flyboy (A view from Above), for photos of your man cave. I sure wished I had one like the one he built for himself. I don't even have a cave for my commuter car which has to sit outside by the curb. I have a crawl space for my sports car, but everything else has to sit outside under the carport, which has a roof but no sides
we have an inner single space carport, and a double carport which opens to the lane. If you want to use the inner vehicle you have to do the car shuffle. It's not easy when everyone gets home and leaves for work at different times. My convertible roadster is usually in the crawl space as I only insure it during the summer months. It will be insured shortly and it will have to share the single carport with my V-strom
A man cave is only a distant dream
How about calling it a Man Cabana? Sort of has a nice ring to it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you had a Corvette. The things we learn on blogs...
Oh and I agree about your second job comment.
Kathy:
Deletesometimes I wished I had heated storage for winter, but I cover the bike during the winter as I have had condensation problems and rust showing up. I can only use the Cabana during warm weather as it is cold outside, and the floor is cement.
I am to embarressed to put up pics of mine.....very very boring.

Deleteyou probably have the best Man Cave of all of us and you don't want to put ours to shame. I park my commuter car outside, on the street, in front of the house. During winter I park in the carport and my bike is parked along the side, this is so I don't have to scrape my windows.
Bob, you have enough space to build that man cage, and you have toys. So I would say that qualifies.

DeleteI wished that we had more room. It's one of the sacrifices of preferring to live in the heart of the city. You get more land in the suburbs. I have downsized myself down to two cars and one bike, from 3 cars and 3 bikes.
I like that, Man Cabana......
ReplyDeleteThree car garage is the way to go Bob....just saying.

DeleteWhen we built the two car carport we decided to leave one side and the rear open to give the appearance of having a larger lot. I have the unheated crawl space where I park the 'Vette, but it is cold in there and has a low height
So it is more of a 'man tunnel'? Oh wait, that just doesn't sound right. I like Man Cabana.
ReplyDeleteAt least you have a place for the toys out of the elements, that is good. Our commuter car is outside in the elements too so don't feel too bad.

DeleteIt's nice to have a place to park undercover, for sure. But they are outside and subject to outside temperatures. During the winter fog and mist travels horizontally and covers the bike. I am getting rust spots, so I started to cover it. Also wind and rain can get under there.
With the 'vette skulking under the house, it's like a DIY batcave you've got going on there, with the batcar (wrong colour FYI), the batcycle... and, hmmmm, have you considered swapping batman for bobskoot?
ReplyDeleteDavid:
Deleteit is a crawl space, you cannot stand up vertically, you have to crink your neck to walk inside. It is not heated but with convection heat from the house, it doesn't freeze but gets very cold. It is also very narrow. I barely have an inch clearance on both sides of my mirrors
Well...if you could only have one of the two, which would it be? Toys and no man cave or man cave a no toys. At least the carport is behind a closing gate and not just open to any wanderer.

DeleteI'm thinking really hard . . . why can't we have it all. After all, you do. Our yard is sealed off so we do have a bit of privacy, but having a lane isn't always that good. Sometimes strange cars go by on
i thinks its a great man cave personally...

Deleteit's great during the summer when it is warm outside. Not so great in the winter when it is cold. I've always wanted an indoor, heated area for doing winter projects. Also when you are doing something outside, you have to put your tools away every time. I have found my gates opened before, even though they are secured
I have had the experience of outdoor parking only - and in an Ottawa winter, seeing your bike buried under a tarp and 6' of snow, it's no fun. In fact I would have to bring the bike into the kitchen to work on it (and that's another story!) So I do enjoy my man cave/workshop. (Will have to post some pics I guess.)
ReplyDeleteBut it doesn't look like it would be a huge job to put some siding up on your carport. It may not be all that warm but at least everything will be in out of the elements and curious passers-by.
I feel your man cabana pain! We have the same issue here. Teeny tiny 1947 garage that currently is occupied by a 74 super beetle, 750 Magna, VT500 and 50cc scooter. It is a very tight fit for all of them in there, but we make it work. When we still had Lucy, Vixen was relegated to living under our cabana and unfortunately during the last big windstorm was knocked over when the wind billowed up under her cover and she tried to take flight. We need to Reno our house, but I am willing to sacrifice an expensive kitchen remodel so Motorcycle Man can build us a big ass garage where WE can hang out & work on our bikes & store them with having to move them to get out & ride. Fill in the sides of the cabana, pop in some insulation and you will be good to go.
ReplyDeleteReally- very important tips........................
