RTE: aka Vancouver Scootering goes to Victoria

Of course RTE = Ride to Eat. It's a rule on our group rides that food must be part of the planning. Food before or at the end and also in the middle. I am sure that most other clubs would choose a destination, but we choose the restaurant first, then figure out the best route to get there and most often a breakfast signals the start of any ride.

I have found it best to keep my videos on the short side, so here is just a compilation of a few clips from Saturday, featuring Dar, "Mistress Scooterpie" as she first arrived on the Causeway across the street from the Empress Hotel. It was the first time I had seen her ride and she handled Mr Motorcycle's donor cruiser like a pro.

I am also introducing Carol & Andrew from ScootersVancouverIslandStyle (sVIs) (<-- link) both of whom are active scooterists in Victoria. Andrew rides a Vespa and Carol has a Vino 125. They organize a lot of group rides and also meet for coffee every Sunday at noon (rides usually follow)

Last year I noticed that Andrew had perfected the "Andrew 2-up method of mounting his Vespa". I was too slow with my camera but today I managed to capture this most magnificent way of getting your passenger on the pillion

  1. I must admit, that mounting method is cool. You had a great turnout. I have to catch up on the previous posts.

actually, most of the scooters weren't there yet. I would guess that there were over a 100 scattered all over the place and some group rides had already left.

  2. I knew that bike before you even put that croc in the picture! Fun looking event. I have missed our little scooter club. Maybe I'll get to the next ride.

glad you recognized the Crocs© ! I was actually debating with Crocs© or go Croc©less. Due to timing, I can't make most of the group rides. I guess most people get off work earlier than me, or else they go on late night rides and I need my beauty sleep. Many rides are also on Sundays, which is my non-riding day.

  3. Great video Bob.

There were a lot of scooters lined up in that row. I too recognized your bike, but love how you put your Croc out there.

Sneaky way of mounting two up. No one accidentally gets a boot to the helmet that way or a leg stuck on the top case. Pretty slick.

The Causeway is the meeting point for rides and for socializing. Everyone shows up there eventually, of course, lots more are out on rides or on their way.

I think it's easier to ride 2-up on a scooter, rather than a V-strom, unless I had somelight as light as yourself. I first saw Andrew & Carol do that last year, but they wouldn't do a "replay" for me. And then I grasped the moment . . .

Often people notice my Pink Crocs© , after a few moments you don't even realize what colour they are. and when someone finally makes a comment, I bring out my Pink iPhone, then they are speechless

  4. I love Carol's ear's & tail on her helmet - too cute! The pink crocs make me laugh, no one else can pull them off like you do!

RTE is exactly what this group is, always hungry! I must be weird because I am never ever hungry when I am riding, I must be living off my fat reserves or something, because since I started riding I have lost 25lbs.

Carol has always had ears & Tail. I have photos going back a few years. I used to NOT EAT, just like you, until one day while riding in the heat from Kamloops I got light-headed. Could be heat or dehydration but I stopped for nourishment. So now I often stop for breaks and have a granola bar and water.

You have no fat reserves, that I could tell, and my eyes are constantly in "scan" mode. believe me, other than the usual, you look great !

PS: you are so right, the "split" is getting longer . . . won't be long now

scooters are small, but it won't work with my V-strom either, too heavy and may bounce the wrong way and it may be too much weight for the sidestand

Welcome to Vancouver. hope the rain stops for you

it was an afterthought as I was "filming". The guys just loved Mistress Scooterpie. The weather was sunny on Saturday, not so good on Sunday

it's always great with a funloving group of guys who love to eat. Anytime we go anywhere it's always about food. RTE is on your mind. Lots more scooters as many weren't there yet

  10. This is a fun blog. I never wave at Scooters, just pass them with envy.
Maybe we'll bump into this group on our way through the Island, here's hoping.

It's an honour to have you visit. I have been following your travels for "months" until you got stuck in Cuba. You both are true adventurers, I can only read and dream . . .

safe journeys to you and Deya
