Last week I took a break from work and went on a cruise. It was relaxing and it was nice to just sit there and watch the world pass by
Lighthouse Park, West Vancouver
We are so busy trying to make a living it is nice to take a pause and get a glimpse of what life would be without schedules. I am sure if you spoke to those who are already retired that they would say that they are so busy there aren't enough hours in the day. Of course we presume that you are still in good health and mobile enough to continue with your hobbies. I can't imagine to just exist and stare out the window and wishing what could be
Paddleboards in False Creek
We have a few floating communities around Greater Vancouver. These are not very visible from the Land side. Paddleboarding seems to be the new water activity, must be very strenuous having to stand all the time.
How time flies when you are doing nothing. The day started with slight drizzle with threatening clouds. I couldn't help but notice these clouds "for Martha"
Looking East towards the Burrard Bridge and Kits beach
I have always been in good health but my foot problems continue to plague. This week I could hardly walk again. Other than that, life is good . . . I imagine that many others have it much worse than me
I agree, taking time to enjoy life should be what everyone needs to do. Hope your foot gets better soon.

Deletesometimes we have to stop to "smell the roses". Same with riding, stop to snap some photos and relax. We should all Live to Work, NOT work to live. Every one is in a rush getting no where fast, spinning their wheels and not realize what they are missing in life
There is absolutley nothing on this earth as relaxing as time spent on the water. Sounds like a great day.
ReplyDeleteCanajun:
DeleteVancouver is surrounded by water on 3 sides. Travelling into the city you most likely have to cross a bridge or go through a tunnel. We don't have much wave action as we are in protected waters. We have lots of walkways where you can stroll or just sit and watch the world. Water has such a calming effect
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in this "making a living" thing that it seems to be the only thing we focus on. I think that this seems to plague guys more as for many, we are what we do. If anyone asks us who we are, we usually respond with name, company & position.
ReplyDeleteNice that you are able to get out again. I am heading up north again in about a week so that will have to suffice...
Richard:
DeleteTraditionally, men are the breadwinners so that is all we know. Our job is to provide for our families so resting and to do nothing feels like lost opportunity. Not all of us can handle this but we learn as we get older to relax and take things slower
Pretty lighthouse scene. I'd love to kayak in False creek...also a pretty setting! Always nice to take a break to watch the world go by. Sorry to hear the foot is still giving you trouble.
ReplyDeleteBluekat:
DeleteThe lands around that lighthouse are filled with trails (Hiking). You would like walking in the forest and sitting on the rocks and watching the water views.

If you come up here, don't walk so fast and wait up for us. We don't have your muscles
I have to agree with Canajun. There is just something about water. I love the shoreline and the lighthouse.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about trying out those paddle boards...
Lori:
DeleteCome on up ! you are welcome to visit anytime. We have water everywhere. You can even rent paddleboards . . . they seem to be everywhere
Sitting, gazing at the water - good for the soul and the foot. You should do it more often. I love the reflections of the floating houses. I think I could sit for awhile in one of thoses.
ReplyDeleteKaren:
DeleteWe have it all Water & Mountains (as you know). I do have a few favourite spots to just sit, relax & do nothing on a nice summer afternoon, it's just that parking is challenging here in the big city.
Ride your *Star to Vancouver and I'll show you more waterfront floating homes and maybe find a pasture/meadow along the way
It looks as though you had a great day Bob. Nice to stop and relax a bit.
ReplyDeleteThe floating houses look really neat, but I don't think i have the coordination for paddle boarding. In my case it would be called swimming, lol.
Trobairitz:
DeleteLately it's been too hot to ride so I thought I would like to enjoy summer in summer clothes, rather than ATGATT. Also when you ride somewhere you have to climb out of your riding stuff and it is always a challenge storing it while you explore and I can't walk in riding boots. It was relaxing to just do nothing and watch the scenery pass by
No grass to cut, no garage, no place to put your bikes, storage may be a challenge due to limited space and I am sure they have other challenges of which we are not aware.
I'd really like to see a Trobairitz on a Paddleboard, if only for a millisecond, or is that a microsecond ?
We do have a few waterfront communities up here. No grass to cut, no garage
Mindfulness at work and at play keeps the Grim Reaper at bay. The buddhists are on to something, though mindfulness is a bugger sight harder than at first might appear. That and exercise will keep you living well, perhaps. Get back to me in a decade.
ReplyDeleteMr Conchscooter:
DeleteHere we are not as laid back as in KW. Things go at a frantic pace. Everyone is in a hurry and going no where fast. I am trying to slow down a bit and relax but that is not in my nature. I always have to be rolling and doing something so this is a new phase for me.
Forget about the NEXT DECADE, you may see me on your doorstep sooner than you think . . .
I'd love to be paddleboarding under that pretty sky. Thanks for the cloud shot!
ReplyDeleteMartha:
Deleteyou inspire me to notice the ordinary. Every time I see angry clouds I think of you. And Angry is used in the nicest sense as images of storm clouds are the best.
Bob
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite places - I love to be by the water too!
N, they don't call him ol' man river for nuttin, N
Nikos:
DeleteI find the waves of the ocean soothing too. But raging rivers and waterfalls are mesmerizing and dangerous if you get too close. Waterfalls if you are close, are hypnotic
Hi bob,
ReplyDeletesorry to hear that your foot is still giving you problems. But I am glad that you had time to take a short boat trip....:-). I love being by the water too...not necessarily "in" it though....:-). Travel is a wonderful thing and I never want to restrict myself to just a car or motor bike. It's good to use whatever means possible to broaden the whole experience of travel. And I think it is a good way of appreciating the things around us through different lenses you might say.
Scootchick/Patricia:
Deleteall I can say is that you are the prolific traveller. A rolling stone gathers no moss. As soon as you were back, you were gone. I see you like the camping thing. It is actually nicer than being stuck in a Hotel and makes you more self-sufficient.
Happy travels and be safe. Hello to Skootard too
hahaha, Thanks Bob for your kind words....:-). Scootard says Hello to you too!
DeleteThat's OK, Bob. I do have a temper. #:^x
ReplyDeleteMartha:
DeleteYou . . . there's NO way you have a temper. You are so level headed and resourceful.
and Summer's NOT over yet. We have at least a month to go and it's starting to get HOT here. Believe me, 80's is HOT
