My plan was to leave early Thursday but I left later than I wanted. Mrs Skoot decided to make me a quick fried egg sandwich to speed me on my way
I do not normally take freeways but today my plan was to take I-5, I-405, I-90, I-82 and I-84. I only stopped twice for fuel, and only because my low fuel warning light came on. I thought I could make it to Ellensburg but paniced and stopped 8 miles short at the first gas station, only to find that I still had one gallon in reserve
I left in cool temperatures, by the time I got to Thorpe I was boiling in 80 degree heat and had to convert my JR jacket to full mesh.
$1.75
I quickly left and continued my treck south and stopped for a quick snack in Yakima at the local food truck for some delicious homemade tacos and mexican soda
I had two tacos for $1.75 ea plus $1.25 for the soft drink
Karen: without her Vstar
I finally made it to Baker City by around 4:30 pm, so I was on the road for just over 10 hours, and this included a power supply failure/repair for my GPS.
that's it for day one, a travelling day to get to Baker City. Not many photos unless you like to see highway shots. I rode half an iron butt at just over 500 miles
Dude, you have to do the Saddlesore. Get it over and admit you too can be a hardcore long distance nutter. It's liberating.

DeleteI am not so sure I want to undertake such a daunting, dangerous task. If I had to ride a 1,000. miles to get somewhere, I would happily do it, but not for no reason
Dude that is one long day. Longer than any I have put in on my trip. Sucks. But at least it is over. ;). Have fun!

Deletereasons for a quick journey will become clear when I have good internet access and I have a chance to post my thoughts
Wow.....and I thought "monkey butt" was a badge of honor! haha
ReplyDeleteGlad you got through your first day, Bob.
Safe travels!

DeleteI love meeting people and any chance to get together is a reason to ride. I still have a week and I am not sure where to go next
Well done Bob and good to see you have all safely arrived.

DeleteMy modest distance was nothing as compared to Richard, Karen and Erik. I hope we were worth meeting
Wow, that's a long day. But worth it, I'm sure. I anxiously await your next post. I'm sure you're all having a grand old time!

Deletewished you were here with BOB. Hope you get a chance to go somewhere before the riding season is over
A thousand miles??!!?? Don't know how you do it. My hat's off to you. I like images from the road. Beautiful countryside in that first shot. $1.75 tacos?? Time for me to head to the taqueria.

DeleteYou misread, I posted "half an iron butt", 500 miles in around 10 hours. I have had Tacos for $1.25 in Toppenish, WA. They are fresh, homemade and very tasty
I am looking forward to seeing who makes this years get together.

DeleteHard to believe that you were here only a year ago. Time flies and it is like it never happened. How is your book coming ? I rode past Snohomish last Thursday and I imagined you were near
