Choices

At work about mid-afternoon my stomach tells me that it needs more input.  I bring snacks and put them in the Company fridge.  I also have a drawer full of sustenance filled with mostly junk food which do not need refrigeration.  Chips, granola bars, canned soup & chocolate. It is like a grocery store in there, thank goodness you didn't ask for a photo of my drawer, I would be embarrassed.   It is time for me to go to the Company kitchen

I usually put my stuff on the 2nd shelf.  I have a Gala Apple and a box of Chocolate coated Girl Guide mint cookies.   They taste better when they are chilled a bit.  So which to choose

should I choose the apple or the cookies.   I decided to take the more healthy option

and chose the Gala Apple

I find that apples always taste better when they are cut into segments.  I take them back to my desk

and started to munch on them as I continued to "work".   I was proud of myself for making the right decision of eating more fruit

Soon thereafter I had finished all the apple segments and my stomach was asking for more . . .

so I had no other choice but to dig into my cookies too

but since I have tremendous will power I managed to stop at two

  1. I don't have the will power, I would have eaten the whole box! I ave Cheerios, crackers & soup at work. I usually bring carrots & stuff. Sometimes though I sneak out for French fries.

I usually have two of those Girl Guide Chocolate Mint Cookies per day and then put the box away back into the fridge. Because it is communal I put it inside a plastic bag. I have had stuff "borrowed" before. I also had a large box of fudgesicles in the freezer but they keep disappearing.

I bring apples mainly because they are easy, but sometimes grapes too.

  2. Bob,

Your cookies appear to be very much like Thin Mints, sold by the Girl Scouts south of the border. I find them similarly better chilled, and optimal after spending time in the freezer. If you truly stopped at 2 you are a better man than I. Not sure if I would have been able to stop...

My current work snack is an apple and grapes, they go very well together. Although I may need to sneak out and find some cookies now.

I think they are the same, sold by the Girl Guides. Chilled they are good. I find that they are too hard in the freezer. I try to stick to two per day, but sometimes near the end when there are only 4 left, I gorge myself

I could stop at two rows too, but then I would have to get my spare box out

Those Girl Guide Chocolate Mint cookies, when chilled, taste like candy. I stop at Two, but I have been known to go back for seconds

  5. Me thinks, two boxes. The one in the fridge and the one in the secret stash...

I have bought 8 boxes this year, gave a couple away. How did you know I had a spare box hiding in my drawer ? I still have two spare, spare boxes at home. Lucky thing they are "low Cal"

  6. You managed to stop at 2 cookies? That is will power. Try taking just two out of the box and leaving the box in the fridge. That way you get exercise walking back and forth to get more.

I usually have Clif Bars in my drawer at work and gum to starve off the hungries. Today it is a pear - that'll do.

I actually bought two Peanut butter CLIFF bars and they are still unopened. I have never tasted one before but I will try them soon. I was going to get some when I go riding.

Yes, sometimes two are not enough and I have to make another trip back to the fridge . . .

I love pears, more than apples. We often have pear & Mandarin Orange fruit salad for dessert at home. I just finished them off a couple of days ago. I just love that sugar syrup . . .

  7. Interestingly, apples make me hungry. I don't understand why. But soon after finishing an apple, I am more hungry than when I initially went for the snack. Grapes are good for me. Ok..I'm suprised Richard didn't ask...so where is the photo of the snack drawer??

I'm surprised that Richard didn't ask either, and I did take photos of my drawer. I like grapes too but they are messy. You have to wash them and they wet your fingers and moisture gets on my work stuff.

I know when you are really hungry, eventually the hunger goes away. Just like when you are not hungry, but then you have something to eat and then you can't stop.

I remember once I was with my friend walking around taking photos. He said we should have lunch now. I said "I'm not hungry". He said, "but it's 1:00 O'clock". We have to remember this when we ride. When I am alone I tend to NOT stop, until I get dizzy, or light-headed. I should keep better track of the time . . .

    2. I didn't ask because I figured that Bob didn't have a wide enough lens to capture the true breadth and depth of the snack "drawer".

  8. Dear Bobskoot:

I haven't had cookies in the house for seven months. The recent headlines for Hostess Twinkies gave me pause for thought... But I haven't had any of those either. I realized I haven't had any fast food since last April too. And oddly enough, I don't miss it. But I am god for 6 to 7 cups of coffee each day. My snack is usually a little fruit and cheese, or fat-free yogurt.

    Fondest regards,

I haven't had a Twinkie in I don't know how long. But I bought some Ding Dongs a few years ago. I only have one coffee per day, otherwise it's just plain boiled water for me. Fruit and cheese is good. I had lots of that recently. I also started eating yogurt a few years ago but I ran out last week, need to buy some more. Hope all is well in Tom's River.
