Autumn in English Bay

It was a slightly warm day at the beach in English Bay

There were lots of people walking about enjoying the last remnants of the season

I keep thinking about the empty beaches where Martha recently posted in Door County where they were deserted, so I wanted to show her how active we are here on the Wet Coast of British Columbia

It is difficult to find a place of solitude whether it be during the heat of summer or the chill of winter. Many residents reside in the condos and apartment buildings of the West End of Vancouver so they crave for the open spaces during periods of good weather.

If you are ever in the area, and you are in need of a snack, come and visit my favourite Hot Dog vendor.

  1. Looks like it was a sunny warm day and a yummy hot dog sounds inviting! Here in Minnesota it is cold and windy.

We are getting cold and windy starting tomorrow. A storm is forecast to dump more rain in one day than we have received during the past 4 months. The rain is expected to continue for the next week, or more.

We aren't known as the Wet Coast for nothing. That's why the residents head for open space and the beach when the sun is out, or when the rain stops

  2. What a beautiful and inviting beach. There are a lot of people but it looks like a pretty inviting area. What makes the hot dogs special?

English Bay is normally frequented by the local residents as parking is hard to find, and not usually free. Our parking meters are in full force 7 days a week, from 9am to 10pm at night. There are no grace periods for holidays. You have to pay everyday all the time. That's why we usually go to Spanish Banks on the other side of the bay

There are lots of tourist shops on Denman, Davie and Robson streets, if you can find parking.

The Hot Dogs are prepared with great care and everything tastes better at "the beach"

  3. That's a busy place. Great place to people watch I bet. Dry and sunny. Gotta take advantage of that!

It is busy because it is easy for residents to walk there. During the summer it is difficult to get any beach space since it is so crowded. Lots of action going on, people feeding seagulls, skateboarding, cycling, Kayaking, walking, sitting and eating Hot Dogs. For people watching we also have Granville Island, and Kits Beach (Kitsilano). Lots of stuff for you to do when you get here

  4. A man after my own heart - I love 'street food' and usually can't wait until the first hot dog vendors hit the streets in the spring. Like you said, it always tastes better outdoors!

We also have lots of food trucks here too and they serve most excellent food so you are not limited to just Hot Dogs. Fish & Chips also taste good while walking in the sand. We usually have mild Winters so except for a few weeks, they are there all year around.

  5. I would love to be there, Bob.

I would expect nothing less of a beach in your big city! But soon we will both have deserted beaches.

I would love to show you around. TourGuide is my second name. Name it and I will take you there.

Even during the dead of Winter, there are people walking around the sea wall which circumnavigates Stanley Park, along with a bike path. You will see lots of people exercising and living the West Coast outdoors lifestyle.

  6. Well, that is true. Even tho it's raining and chilly people still get out. Here, everyone just leaves. Or stays inside.

I'll have to remember to snap some photos later in the Winter for you to see how active we are here. It can rain for months so you can't be a prisoner in your home, you have to get out and live, rain or no rain

  7. Can you call it the wet coast when it has been so dry all summer? Well I guess the rains are back so you're safe.

Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR broke rain records for October 12th (yesterday). We broke records for the driest July, Aug, and Sept on record and then we break records on the day it finally rains, go figure.

we have had torrential rains since Friday. since yesterday we have had 4 inches of rain. roads are flooded everywhere with pooling water which is a hazard to motorcyclists, but we haven't broken any rain records yet

I guess we are paying the price for your dry weather now

  8. Beautiful area! I can relate to the apartment dweller's need for space! LOL

Would love to visit and ride with your gang!

anytime you get to our area I would be glad to show you around, anytime . . .

We get nearly 6 months of rain so we can't always hide inside
