where I had agreed to meet up with Canajun & Vstar*lady for lunch.
I woke up early and packed up my bike so I could make a quick getaway without waking everyone up but my bike was blocked by the Acura. By the time I got the keys, moved the car out of the way and pushed my bike outside, David was up and making a great breakfast so I wouldn't have to ride away hungry. Also it felt a bit funny to be grabbing car keys from another person's car without asking them . . . lucky for me they were on the kitchen counter
My plan was to be on the road by 8am. It was a 3 hour ride from Montreal but I wanted to travel on some backroads but by the time breakfast was finished it was already 9am so now I had no time buffer so I took Hwy 401 for part of the way before I diverted North. I wasn't really watching my fuel level as I was now in populated area and I thought that gas would be readily available. But I was wrong. There are not that many gas stations off the beaten path and because this was a Holiday weekend the first two stations were closed
Eventually I was able to top up my tank. Thank goodness I spotted this station and made a U-turn to get here as it was not on the main highway
On the way to Perth I noticed some signs for some "locks" but I knew I had no time to stop and divert to see them. I just continued on my merry way until I arrived "lost in Perth". We agreed to meet at the tourist info centre but who knew where it was so I was going up and down and back and forth trying to find them. Eventually I noticed a familiar bike and Canajun led me to the parking lot
where Vstar*lady was patiently waiting
We decided to just eat at the Mexican place by the river/canal
It was nice to sit outside and chat the time away and soon our meals come
Isn't it the way. You are always looking at the meal you didn't order as it look better. After we finished our meals we decided to walk a bit and chat some more
There was a park across the street and we noticed that the water levels seemed very high
and there was a statue of a famous horse. We head back to our bikes where Canajun decides to ride South with us to Westport, ON before turning around and head north home to Ottawa
I am not that familar with the geography around here so I let my tour guides consult their maps to map out our route
We eventually arrive in Westport where we have a beverage and say our goodbyes
and I snap a couple of photos of Canajun's bike
before we head our separate ways
Here is a short recap of our ride together
That building in the seventh photo (the brick building with the long porch overhanging the water) looks really familiar. Not sure why. BTW, I'm really enjoying the videos you're posting. And really envious of your adventure.
ReplyDeleteI found it. Karen had posted a picture from a little over a year ago on a trip to Perth. http://ridingonavstar.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
DeleteRichard:
DeleteYou've got a good memory. I went back and re-read that post. I also got to walk over that bridge too. That's where this photo was taken. Amazing that she also posted a photo of the restaurant where we had lunch
Sounds like you had a great time. Food looks good too!
ReplyDeleteKathy:
DeleteOne of the best things in life, is meeting people & eating. I am glad that we had a chance to meet up, if only for an hour or so
RichardM beat me to this, what's with that building, I am sure I've seen it somewhere before.
ReplyDeleteCanajun has a handsome bike ;-)
Sonja:
DeleteRichard is a good detective. Canajun's bike has a striking colour scheme, catches your eye
Richard/Sonja - isn't it a cool building? I can imagine going to sleep listening to the water whispering as it rushes past the window. That river is so shallow Bob didn't believe it was really an honest to goodness river (He had to read the sign!)
ReplyDeleteBob...the memories keep 'flooding' back.
Karen:
DeleteHow I wished we could go back in time and repeat the summer. So many memories triggered by looking at photos. It seems like a dream that never happened. I am missing my "tour guide"
Looks like you went from toasty warm at lunch to rain on the ride. The rain looks refreshing about now.
ReplyDeleteAnd that building is really neat. I really like the way the porch overhangs the water.
Trobairitz:
DeleteFor some reason I don't mind warm Summer rain, not the cold rain we get here, but when the rain stops it gets really humid as it starts to evaporate. It was actually refreshing and welcomed.
I went back to Karen's blog and now I recognize where her photos came from
Bob,
ReplyDeleteThe horse and rider are Ian Miller and Big Ben. They won many equestrian events for Canada and their home base was Westport. Big Ben is now in heaven's pasture, so the town built a memorial for him.
B:
DeleteNow I remember. I don't keep a notebook but now it all sounds familiar. There are so many places that I wanted to explore but I ran out of time
Oops, meant to say that Perth was their hometown, not Westport; my bad!
