29in29: 9 Teen

Well, it looks like the weatherman is wrong again. Today it was supposed to clear up and I had planned to take my bike somewhere. It doesn't look like our downpour is going to stop. I went to take out the garbage and I got drenched, lucky I have waterproof unshoes

so I'll continue with a few highlights of our visit to:

Arches National Park, Utah

Arches NP Remembrance Day, November 11, 2004

We spent two days in Moab and found that we hardly had enough time to scratch the surface. We had a very hurried tour of Arches NP and Canyonlands NP before we had to continue on our way

Balance Rock

There are many rock formations created by erosion. We even sat in on the orientation talk at the Ranger Station, which is required in order to travel into specific areas. A lot of Western Movies were filmed here. There are some areas where you are not allowed, except with a registered Guide as you would get lost trying to negotiate the similar rock mazes. You could be walking in circles for days and not find your way out.

Since we only budgeted a day here we had to move along, but there are many unique formations which are a delight for photographers

Many of the arch formations have names. I forget but this could be Turret Arch. I guess I'll have to go back to find out. Next time I would like to be riding my bike there

Portrait: Spectacle Arch November, 2004

One of the most photographed arches is "Delicate Arch" . There are two trails from the parking lot; a strenuous one, or an easier one. Since Mrs Skoot can't hike we chose the easy one, but it was still a struggle

Our trail took us to the ridge opposite, while the challenging one will take you right up to the top where you are able to touch the arch

  3. Great pics. It looks like so much fun to hike and take pictures. I can see why you'd want to go back.

I like your un-shoes - it is good they came waterproof. Did you buy the whole suit?

  4. Beautiful! Is that a couple of hikers on the last one - the itty, bitty dots of people? Really gives scale to the arch doesn't it. Great photos (and it's dry!)

the rock formations were neat. You would go wild with your camera, there is a new vista around every corner. In some areas you can only hike with a registered guide, as you will get lost in the maze

    SonjaM:

I like Arches. I also like Canyonlands but you need to rent the Pink Jeep and go down into the Canyon. There are 1,000. miles of roads down there

    Trobairitz:

we can ride our bikes down there. You would love it. I prefer to wear my un-shoes all the time, I also brought my suit to Hawai'i and I have photos to prove it

    BlueKat:

yes, those little ants are people. That Arch is really huge. We went in November and we got hot climbing up to the viewpoint

    VS Lady:

You'll have to make another cross country trip. Come to Oregon next July, 2012 and perhaps we could make a dash down there for a few days
