I woke up at my usual time before 6am and saw my last sunrise in Ottawa, Illinois (not the Ottawa in Canada) , peaking over the corn field
I had to make up for lost time so all I did was gas up and continue on my way Westward
my plan was to keep riding into the night to make up for lost time but then I decided to stop for dinner. When I was finished I decided that this wasn't such a good idea and I noticed a hotel across the street so here I stayed for the night and not quite out of Iowa.
I managed to grab the last ground floor room, except that I nearly croaked from all the residue cigarette smoke.
The next day (ie today) I decided to get a really early start and rose with the sun
there is hardly anyone on the road at this hour. Only me and my shadow.
Between yesterday and today I logged over 1,000. miles
and when I noticed this sign I just had to stop for a photo
tonight I am in good company with covered parking. Yesterday breakfast in Chicago and tonight dinner in Denver. I am happy, good fast free WiFi here
You're in Denver so you are in good hands. It looks as though the rains have stopped too. Makes for a much more pleasant ride

DeleteThunderstorms down here, just heard thunder. Not looking good for the next day or so
Not only do I have free, fast, WiFi. I get fed too
Hotel? What happened to camping?
ReplyDeletePlease say hi to Dom & Martha from me.
Sonja:
Deletenot with thunderstorms forecast every night. Not good to have to pack up wet
Good, company, good WiFi and covered parking! What more could one ask for? So what did you think of Nebraska as there is no mention of any part of the state in your post? At least none that I managed to catch...
ReplyDeleteAnd. camping at those temperatures isn't any fun. Maybe you can camp out in Dom's back yard.
Richard:
DeleteI breezed through NE. I was here a few years ago and stayed in Omaha. That's why I didn't stop. I do like the rest stops in Iowa, they are the best ! I also like the 75 mph speed limit where everyone travels at 82 mph
yay, more friends! have fun in Denver!!
ReplyDeleteMs M:
DeleteI had a great time today. You shall read about it soon. This is the 3rd time I have bumped into DOM this year. Once in Vancouver when he went to Alaska, then in Holman when I started this trip, and now on my way home. This is my 2nd home, I am like family here
Looks like a good ride!!!
ReplyDeleteKathryn:
DeleteI am heading to Northern CA, but a bit farther north from where you are
This is what happens folks, when you leave the garage door open and unattended....road weary travelers sneak in!

I think he was homing in on fast WiFi...
DeleteDom:
DeleteIt's not my fault you left the door open . . .
The WiFi may have only been the clincher to the deal. I think he was homing in on the food...
DeleteDom, same thing happened here. I agree, he must be homing in on Wifi.
DeleteBob,
ReplyDeleteYou've helped to define Flyover Land. Enjoy the west.

DeleteI wass't sure if there was anything to see except corn fields and cows so I was just rolling the miles towards home. Being so far from home I thought I could slow down a bit as I approach areas I am familiar with.
You're supposed to sightsee in areas you HAVEN'T been to before. :)
DeleteAs I already noted, 3rd visit, we drop the "company" title, and transfer you to the family grouping.
ReplyDeleteMartha:
DeleteI love it here. Don't forget our family holiday in Montana 2011 all of us in that cabin, plus I've been to the family homestead . . .
You made it to Colorado - excellent. Can't wait to hear who it was who delayed you at breakfast ...
ReplyDeleteKaren:
DeleteI already added her to my sidebar. She took photos too and will be posting up soon. She was the reason that I hung around Indiana and had to travel back towards Chicago
I had the same smoke-scent-choked-room experience in a Motel 6. "We'll keep the light on for ya" now must mean, "We'll light up for ya."
ReplyDeleteJohn:
Deletebeggars can't be choosers. I usually get "non-smoking" but I forgot to ask. as soon as I opened the door I nearly choked . . . I turned on the A/C and it was a bit better but the smoke was in the sheets and carpets. They were nearly full and I didn't want to ride anymore
Bob, I'm having trouble keeping up with the posts. Nice job gobbling up the miles.
ReplyDeleteYou made good time from IL.
