Last Thursday we decided that after our visit to Quebec City instead of staying there, we would ride to Montreal instead. We nearly made it without getting wet but during our last two hours on the highway we were drenched and had to huddle under an overpass until the rain got lighter.
Our hosts, David & Susan delayed their dinner and waited for us and we had a most delicious meal.
Then it was off to Old Montreal. Of course I just had to snap a photo of this red carriage
It's a busy place with lots of stores and restaurants
and I am fascinated with the architecture of the old buildings
It is not easy riding on the decaying and uneven surface of the cobblestone streets
there were strange activities going on downtown. These people were roasting hot dogs on a wood fire
while others were playing with the water features
happily my pink crocs remained dry while we barefooted the night away
we also managed to walk to a viewpoint for some night shots of the city
It was decided that I needed to try some fresh Montreal Bagels from a 24 hour bakery.
bob - exquisite night photos of Montreal.

Deletedid you realize that David dragged me out for another hike that night to a viewpoint not accessible by motorized vehicles ?
but the view was worth it
Bob, you certainly pack a lot into one day! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteEL D:
Deletehe was reciprocating with my whirlwind tour of Vancouver last year. Lots to see and not enough time
I'd have become very distracted by those "water features"....mesmerizing even from here.
ReplyDeleteCoop:
Deleteas you noticed, we were mesmerized too. Hard to contain yourself when there is water around
Beautiful pics of Montreal.
ReplyDeleteThat night shot is postcard perfect.
Trobairitz:
DeleteWe had trouble with the gusting wind. Lots of camera shake, even with a tripod
Love the photos of Old Montreal contrasted with very modern downtown Montreal.
ReplyDeleteLucky:
DeleteModern cities are all the same, sort of
so much more to see in the Old parts of town
What a beautiful place. Absolutely fascinating.
ReplyDeleteI could feel the cool water between my toes!
Deb:
Deleteit's like going back in time and wondering how it was like to live there 100 or more years ago
sand between your toes feels good too
It looks like you had a great visit. I love the photos of the old part of town though the carriage looks a lot closer to pink than red...
ReplyDeleteRichard:
Deleteit was actually pink so it caught my eye
even with all the people, it felt safe. It is easy to find parking for bikes, they don't seem to bother you if you are tucked out of the way. Lots of bikes parked in corner clearance areas
I think architecture's fascinating. Your shots from Quebec City and Montreal are a treat.
ReplyDeleteJohn:
Deletewhile I have never been to Europe, these places have an Old country feel. You will know what I mean when you come here. Lots of buildings and houses have walls of stone or bricks
Montreal looks much more inviting in August than it did in the -40º winter when we were there. We do plan to go back sometime to check out the architecture, the sights and history of the city.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to visit.
Troubadour:
DeleteIt was actually nice to be walking around town in shorts. Temps were just right. Can't imagine it would be very nice to be there in -40c temps.
there is a whole underground city with passageways and it seems that we walked in lots of them
